Amazon.com Review

Reading and learning become fun for kids when they've got Highlights for Children magazine to entertain and teach them. Every issue is chock full of wholesome, challenging content that gets little minds going, so you can rest assured that the hours your child spends engrossed in the articles, puzzles, and activities is well worth the time. The magazine's philosophy focuses on encouraging kids to become more creative, more sensitive to others, and more able to think for themselves.

From science projects to jokes and puzzles, the content in Highlights for Children magazine will get your child's attention and keep it for longer than you imagined was possible. Kids love to figure out the answers to puzzles and quizzes themselves, making this magazine a departure from the instant-gratification culture often found in modern kid-oriented activities, publications, and apps. Kids can also submit their own art and writing for consideration in a reader-submitted section of the magazine.

Regular features every month in Highlights for Children magazine give kids a sense of familiarity that makes them comfortable even when faced with material that challenges their growing brains. The classic Timbertoes characters appear in every issue, and kids look forward to seeing these favorite friendly faces when they open the magazine cover. The combination of familiarity and new ideas helps kids develop the confidence to try new things and excel at things they've never done before.

Your children deserve engaging content that will excite and inspire them, and Highlights for Children magazine delivers fun articles, activities, and experiences that get your kids excited about learning new things.

The product itself is good and engaging for kids.
However, be wary once your a customer and a client because you will be in their records. Their marketing trick is to keep on sending you "gifts" or packages of more books or puzzles even up to the point that you dont even ask for it. Later on you'll be charged for it for not returning their books (of course you will mistakenly think they were part of your subscription in the first place.) So you will incur charges, even late fees if you dont pay. And cancelling can be a pain too! You will be in their "collection agency" if you don't pay up. Bad customer service!

1.0 out of 5 stars watch out for SCAMS in magazine February 5, 2012
Subscription Term Name:1 year
My daughter received a subscription to High Five as a gift. This is a version of the magazine for younger children...from Highlights. She loves it. In one of the magazines, at the back, there was a little scratch game. You had to scratch the pieces and if you had three matches you could win a FREE book and a FREE tote bag. So of course we won. My daughter was very excited and I thought it was pretty cool myself. A couple weeks later we get some Highlights puzzle magazines in the mail...didn't think anything of it. This morning my wife and daughter are having fun doing activities in these magazines and I start to wonder, out loud, why they gave these to us. I start sifting through all the papers and find an invoice that says we owe $2.45 for S&H and $5.49 for one of the puzzle "books" (they're actually magazines)...and a couple more that are "free". Then I come across another piece of paper that informs me that they will send me the "free" tote once I send them the money. This absolutely infuriates and disgusts me. How can they take something fun and innocent and turn it into something ugly. I remember having Highlights when I was a kid! I'm looking for alternative activity books for my daughter as I was planning on continuing the subscription when it ended.

4.0 out of 5 stars excellent resource August 20, 2006
Subscription Term Name:1 year
I enjoyed this magazine as a kid, but then, I also loved Electric Company. Looking at both now, they seem dated and tedious, but perhaps our children need something that moves at a slower pace than everything seems to do now. Neither of my children (5 & 7) enjoyed Highlights at first, but after getting a subscription from their grandmother, they have discovered the joy of curling up in a quiet corner and figuring out the puzzles and stories for themselves. It's a magazine with a style and format that encourages reflection and absorption, rather than a voracious grab and go version of reading, that I believe will give a child a better foundation. 1.0 out of 5 stars Unsolicited Magazine Scam - Beware August 4, 2012
By Anna
Subscription Term Name:1 year
Last year, I had received several of the Highlights Puzzlemania magazines which all ended up in trash as I took those materials as unsolicited advertising. Shortly after, I kept receiving invoices for those thrown-away materials. I kept calling the Customer Service and requested my name and address to be removed from their mailing lists. Eventually paid the hideous charges to be over with that scam. But it was a short-lived relief....until this year...when I received an invoice for another magazine "Top Secret Advantage" again from Highlights claiming I had received one of their magazines. I do not have that magazine as it likely ended up in trash along with some other advertising. As a result, I cannot send it back to void the invoice. I had emailed their customer service a week ago again requesting my name and addressed removed from their mailing list but no response. I had tried to call them on Saturday but of course they only "work" in the most customer inconvenient business hours and never on the weekends.

Subscription Term Name:1 year|Verified Purchase
Let me start by saying the magazine is great. I tend to order most of my online purchases through Amazon, because I have had very could results, this one however I would have been much better off to have gone through HIGHLIGHTS themselves at [...]. I ordered two magazines, Highlights for children (ages 6-12) and Highlights High Five at the same time - on September 13, 2009. The High Five magazine came as expected in beginning of November. The Highlights for Children did not. I waited and waited (not wanting to give one child something and not the other). In Mid November I called Highlights directly. They said they had never received the order for this magazine. Then I called Amazon. They gave me the Number for Magazine Express whom they sell this through. I called them. The customer service rep was very rude and proceeded to tell me it would be another few weeks for the magazine to be sent - that it could take up to 10 weeks. When asked why Highlights said they had never received the order, they said that it was actually going to be sent in bulk to them, then they would distribute. I then called Highlights again. They said that wasn't the case, all magazines are sent from them. They had received the order for the High Five, and that is why it had been shipped and received already. I then had to send proof via fax that I had paid for both substriptions and when the order had been placed. I did so, then called Amazon back, for I really didn't want to speak with the rude rep at Magazine Express again. Amazon contacted them, and they informed them of the same lies they had told me. I finally received the first issue on December 5,2009 (almost 3 months after the order and 2 issues of High Five later). Read more ›
