5.0 out of 5 stars Great collection for the casual fan
Want to know all about Yes without listening to songs that are twenty minutes long? Do you want only the hits, instead of hearing songs in the context of their original albums? Are your favorite Yes songs "I've Seen All Good People," "Roundabout," and "Owner of a Lonley Heart"? If you answred "Yes" to any of these questions, I suggest you check out "Highlights: The Very...

3.0 out of 5 stars The basics.
This was my first Yes disc, and even as a casual fan I quickly realized I needed more. So I got the 3-disc best of. Yeah, big jump. As a child of the 80's I also got 90210 and Big Generator. That was a joke by the way, I know it's 90125. Actually as brief as this collection is, I think it's just two songs short of real good. If this added "It Can Happen" and "Love Will...

Want to know all about Yes without listening to songs that are twenty minutes long? Do you want only the hits, instead of hearing songs in the context of their original albums? Are your favorite Yes songs "I've Seen All Good People," "Roundabout," and "Owner of a Lonley Heart"? If you answred "Yes" to any of these questions, I suggest you check out "Highlights: The Very Best of Yes." Everything the casual fan would want is here. Going in chronological order, the album takes the listener upon a journey from Yes' early days ("Survival," "Time and a Word") to their breakthrough album, "The Yes Album," with "Starship Trooper" and "I've Seen All Good People," to their masterpiece, "Fragile," with "Roundabout" and "Long Distance Runaround" to their '80s revival album "90125," with the songs, "Owner of a Lonely Heart" and "Leave It," to "Rhythm of Love" from the "Big Generator" album. For casual fans, does this album have everything you need? Yes.

4.0 out of 5 stars A decent teaser..., December 28, 2007

As the name of the release suggests...this is a disc of highlights. There is certainly essential Yes on this compilation although at only 12 songs, there are quite a few gems omitted. It was refreshing, however, to see that "Going for the One" was included! It's a great budget release, but certainly a teaser. Fans will want to jump to their boxed sets or a more lengthy best of, however it's tough to pens Yes' essential without hearing all of their classic releases.

That was a joke by the way, I know it's 90125. Actually as brief as this collection is, I think it's just two songs short of real good. If this added "It Can Happen" and "Love Will Find A Way" I'd add another star. Like I said, child of the 80's. "Shoot High, Aim Low" would be nice too, but I wouldn't expect that on a best of. If this has the songs you want, perfect. If not, many of their albums are dirt-cheap used.

5.0 out of 5 stars YES: the FM Classics including ALL GOOD PEOPLE, August 31, 2008

The English progressive rock band YES has had a long interesting career. This CD is a good place to survey the group's incredible abilities in composition and performance, and to get a sense of the wide variations in their style as they passed through their first 20 years. The collection here is a gleaning of 12 favorites from 1969 - 1987: Starting out with SURVIVAL (1969) from their first album, moving along to the big-sound hard rock hit SPACESHIP TROOPERS (1971) and the resounding, popular FM radio hits ALL GOOD PEOPLE (1971), & ROUNDABOUT (1972). Some of their better, more musical work follows with WONDROUS STORIES (1977) and ending with RHYTHM OF LOVE (1987), which was their last popular hit. You might want to pick up some of their most recent albums just to hear their progress, because they never cease to amaze. The last YES album we have is MAGNIFICATION from 2001, and there exists a 2003 CD of their live performance at the Montreux musical festival. They have stopped performing and recording since 2004, but one can always hope they will pick up the thread once again.

I liked this CD because it had their old hits like "Roundabout" but also later hits like "Owner Of A Lonely Heart" and "Leave It." A good collection of Yes hits for your music library.
