Part of "The Classroom Strategies Series", The Highly Engaged Classroom is a solid guide for educators to getting high levels of attention from their students. Strategies range from refining one's pacing, to incorporating physical movement, using games or friendly controversy, connecting to students' lives, using effective verbal feedback, and more. Examples, guidelines, and more user-friendly material fill this excellent accessory of classroom-tested tactics recommended for educators of students at all grade levels, from elementary to college students.

I was hoping for specific strategies or games to use in classroom. Most of the stuff you already know or is common sense.

Reads like a college text book. I want less theory and more practical ideas. I wanted more engagement ideas to implement in a primary classroom. I have learned most of these strategies in Kagan structures classes.

This book does not contain enough examples and is very complicated. Too scholarly. If you are looking for some quick engaging activities for your students this is not the book for you or for them. Book requires a lot of analyzing to get to the meat of the material.

I read this book as part of a book study and I felt that it provided a tremendous amount of practical, usable ideas that I was able to implement in my classroom immediately.

This is one of the best teacher resources that Marzano has written. Marzano clearly defines and outlines the reasons students are not engaged in classrooms. More important, though, are the guidelines for engaging students in deeper thinking and understanding. He walks the classroom practitioner through steps and processes to use immediately for positive student results. This is an amazing resource for educators.

I have read Marzano before and was not too interested or impressed. This has completely changed since I read the last book, because this book has many practical suggestions that I was able to grasp and plan implementing right away. It is well-supported by research.
