Pretty Good Travel Mug, Alternative to Metal, Plastic, Etc.,
By Earl Grey Rules (Midwest) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Highwave Original Autotray White Stoneware Mug 12 Oz (Kitchen)
Highwave makes good mugs. There are a variety of decent shapes and styles, depending on your preference. And the company has a sense of humor with its marketing. Regarding the Autotray:Pro: Drinking tea out of metal isn't good. Plastic isn't a whole lot better. Cardboard and styrofoam, ugh -- and hot beverages that come in those cups can cost $3? Stoneware/china is the way to go, particularly white so that the tea looks like, smells like and tastes like tea. This shape is good for travel, it holds 12 oz like a regular cup, the soft bottom is practical, it fits in my 90s cup holder, the top to seal off the contents is useful. Even though it's not unbreakable, my Autotray has lasted through about four years of indifferent treatment. The handle doesn't get in the way of my cup holder. Con: Gets cold within an hour, but the outside is comfortingly warm (metal can seem strangely cool). What bothers me more is that it's tough to clean without a tool for cleaning baby bottles. There are nooks & crannies that tea sticks to. And the bottom is fairly deep and narrow, so it's definitely hard to reach and clean thoroughly. People with bigger hands may find the handle too small and prissy, although actually it's well balanced. Overall: I am considering buying another one of these or switching to the Joloppi model, which also has a soft bottom, holds 12 oz, has a rubber grip instead of a handle, and has a soft top, instead of the hard plastic. I have two older (now discontinued unfortunately), basic coffee mugs from Highwave for home and office that have a soft bottom and top. I prefer the soft, even though it isn't 100% spill resistant and the rubber does deteriorate over time. But luckily Highwave sells replacement lids for only a dollar or so. BTW, as far as I've been able to determine by shopping around, only Highwave makes mugs with a soft top and bottom -- and decent mugs, at that. Highwave makes good mugs for a good price. It's easy to see why this style has been a lasting success. And it's good to see Highwave as an Amazon merchant. I probably will continue to only use Highwave mugs for everyday use, because they are designed intelligently for people who really enjoy coffee and tea and other hot beverages. They stand up to wear and tear, and aren't overly fancy. Highwave's mugs are for regular, dependable drinking.

Almost perfect,

This review is from: Highwave Original Autotray White Stoneware Mug 12 Oz (Kitchen)
I was looking for a mug that did 3 things:1) Fit in the auto cupholders of my cars 2) Could be washed in a dishwasher 3) Could be micro-waved. These are good at all 3, but after one dishwashing, the rubber "coaster" that is glued to the base of the cup came off in the dishwasher. Maybe it's a nit, but dishwasher safe is a little inaccurate.. That said, I just ordered 2 more!

Highwave Original Autotray Stoneware Mug,
By Ann Gardener (Maine, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Highwave Original Autotray White Stoneware Mug 12 Oz (Kitchen)
I ordered a 12 ounce, Highwave Original Autotray Stoneware Mug at Amazon.com, because I love mine and wanted my husband to have his own. (He kept borrowing mine!) At first, WinningGifts sent the wrong mug but made good on their mistake. They were very helpful and friendly, let me keep the other stoneware mug and also sent, for no extra charge, a navy blue (my choice) autotray mug within a few days. As it turned out, my husband loved the navy blue mug better than the white. Coffee tastes a lot better in the stoneware mug than in stainless steel or plastic. The mug also has a nice weight and simple, classy design. Coffee does not stay as warm as it would in a Thermos-type container, but for our purposes, that's fine. The only drawback to the design is that the stoneware mug is breakable. (My husband dropped his first Highwave Autotray mug.) So, if you get one, you'll want to be more careful with what will become your favorite travel mug.
