A glimpse of what's to come,
By
This review is from: Highway 377 (Audio CD)
I have every Ragweed CD there is, and 'Highway 377' is the one that sneeks its way into my player far more often than the rest. It is a glimpse of the greatness that the group has accomplished and will continue to accomplish. When someone asks me where to start when it comes to finding Ragweed love -- I point them in the direction of this CD. Many of these songs that continue to feature heavily in concert -- even going so far as to re-record 'Alabama'. (For what its worth, I like this version better.) This is, in my opinion, the best Ragweed album to date.

Can't seem to get this out of my CD player...,

I had heard a few songs here and there from this band, but never really gave them that much of a chance. Then I bought this CD at a live show and haven't been able to bring myself to take it out of my truck ever since. Their prior CDs had not been mixed very well, so I didn't really get into them. But, this one is cleaner and very well produced. The result is one outstanding song after another. CCR takes "Americana", "Texas Music", or whatever you want to call the style of country music with a total absence of Nashville influence, and puts a driving rock beat behind it. Bands like Reckless Kelly appear to be a big influence. In fact, CCR even covers RKs "Crazy Eddie's Last Hurrah" on the new CD "LIVE & LOUD FROM BILLY BOBS" coming out July 9th.

Don't miss your chance!,

I heard these guys at a Pat Green concert a while back and have absolutely fallen in love with this band. My friends and I attend any CCR concert we can, and we often find ourselves travelling all around Texas. I bought this CD and have virtually kept it in my car stereo all the time. No wait, I take that back, I take it out of the CD player long enough to replace it with "Live at the Wormy Dog" another one of CCR's CD's. Highlights of this album are, "42 miles", "Alabama", and "Long Way Home." I am looking forward to the "Live at Billy Bob's" CD. Buy this CD and go to any concert you can, because these guys are going to be big, and you'll kick yourself for missing the opportunity.

Ragweed Rules,
By Fyodor Hugo (Hurricane Branch, Kentucky) - See all my reviews

Highway 377 is the second studio release from the Boys from Oklahoma. The title of this album refers to a road on which the frontman, Cody Canada, had an automobile accident. The title track is about that wreck.
This may be the most underrated Ragweed album, if such a thing exists. Typically when people discuss favorite Ragweed albums I hear Soul Gravy or Garage. My personal favorite is the eponymous "purple album". However, 377 has several concert staples including, 42 Miles, Long Way Home and possibly the most popular concert song, Alabama.

Best Album... and that's saying something,
By

I haven't heard an album or a single song come to that by these guys that I don't love. Highway 377 is the fourth of their albums that I've picked up and it has become instantly my favorite. And that's saying something because rarely does a band deliver so amazingly and so consistently. There hasn't been a southern rock band this great since the 70's and this album is yet anther testament to that fact. "Jimmy and Annie" "One of these Days" and "Highway 377" are the highlights of this one, but again, it's so hard to choose because every single song fires on all pistons. If you're at all into southern rock, you seriously can't go wrong with any of their albums, but this is as good a disc to start with as any. Then again, maybe buy one or two of their others ("purple" or "garage" if I had to choose) and build up to this one.

Cross Canadian Ragweed cannot disappoint!,
This review is from: Highway 377 (Audio CD)
HIGHWAY 377 is a rockin' little album about love, redemption, desperation, and committment. Stellar songwriting and incredible performances drive it into a category only CCR occupies--the best of the best."Look At Me" deals with a hookup in a bar, from a man who's down and out but still willing to try. "42 Miles" is about a man who just longs to get away from it all, but circumstances prevent him. "One of These Days," a funny little number about how love often goes wrong, will get you rockin' out; the title track is a haunting look at the constant battle between Good and Evil (personafied here as, of course, Christ and Satan). "Time to Move On" deals with that point in your life when you just have to, naturally, move on. "Long Way Home" is an ode to Vietnam, and those who fought there (and lost something precious). "Run to Me" is about the true meaning of committment; "Johnny's Song" and "Daddy's At Home" are two moving acoustic numbers. Cross Canadian Ragweed melds country and rock into a sound all their own. Yes, they are influenced by Nashville; not a whole lot, though (it's evident in "Alabama," "Bang My Head," and "Look at Me", but not in excess). They've managed something that most artists can only dream of: they've created good music by doing their own thing. HIGHWAY 377 is a perfect example of what a band can do when they're set free--to be themselves.

CCR is so much fun - you can tell that these guys are just going out there and making music that they love! I move the CD from home to car to office every day - and have converted several of my office mates into CCR fans. The music grabs you & doesn't let go; buy every CD they have out b/c I promise you that after 1 CD - you'll want more.

Wake Up,

If you like to rock and you like country music then this is the band for you. Not only do you want to buy every CD they have recorded but you wish they would cover ever song that you love. A band that expands on the studio recordings shows an artist's ablilty that is second to none. I hope CCR does not get too big that the North Carolinaians do not have to travel west of the Mississippi to "partake" in their music. If you do not like loud a** kicking music that leaves everyone screaming for more, then you just wasted you time reading this review because I can't make you like these guys, I can only tell you what you are missing!

Way to go Chris. finally another North Carolinian who knows who Cross Canadian Ragweed is. they are one of the best out by far.Highway 377 is a great cd I recommend it to anyone. Texas country is a hell of lot better then that nashville [music] by far. as Cory morrows title to one of his songs says "Nashville Sucks"

I think Cross Canadian Ragweed's Highway 377 CD is so cool. I like the bonus song on the last track. They are the best country and rock band ever. Anyone who likes country should get this CD.
