The Highway Angler by Gunnar Pedersen,
By H. J. Harju (Cheyenne, Wyoming United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Highway Angler III (Paperback)
I bought the 1992 edition, The All-new Highway Angler, the first year it was available, in a bookstore in Anchorage, and have used it on 4 trips to Alaska. If you are new to Alaska and looking for quality fishing you don't have to access from a float plane, Pederson's book tells you where and when. Recognizing that there are early and late springs, differences in snowfall and amounts of runoff into streams, I've found the book to be a great help in identifying waters to fish. When the book says fish average a certain size, they invariably are that size. Locations of spots to fish are easily found, times of year are accurate, and methods and baits/lures to use for various species are a great help to those new to the region. Whether we fly to Alaska and rent a motorhome or drive to Alaska, we always spend time fishing, and The Highway Angler has not only guided our choices of equipment, it has made the trip up and back often enough it is dog-eared and in need of replacement. Besides, it's a new edition, and there's probably some places in there I've missed!

The Best Do-It-Yourself Guide to Alaska Fishing,
By Rejane Rivera (Anchorage, Alaska) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Highway Angler III (Paperback)
Without a doubt the best guide book to fishing Alaska's roads and highways on the market. Very thorough, detailed, and concise. Bargain price for the rich content. Easy to find information on species and locations as well as useful how-to tips. Having lived and fished in Alaska for over a decade, I would highly recommend this book to anyone planning to fish the state's roadside waters.

This review is from: The Highway Angler III (Paperback)
Fishing Alaska's streams and rivers can be difficult. If you're not there when the salmon are, your just getting your line wet... you aren't fishing! This book will tell you when to fish, for what species, for every stream in Alaska. Plan your Alaska fishing trip, guided or unguided, by the salmon runs!
