5.0 out of 5 stars WOW! HEROS! Ordinary men in an extraordinary situation
I first read about this story in Reader's Digest and was so engrossed in it that I went to my local Bookstore and ordered it shipped "RUSH". I was raised at an airport and have been an avid follower of aviation. I found this book to have a GREAT balance of technical and lay details of aviation. Furthermore, I had a long talk with a FedEx 727 Captain who was "Non-Reving"...

3.0 out of 5 stars Tense, quick reading. Technically accurate (a rarity).
I had read a short article awhile back on this incident, butthis book played back the incident with a fine tooth comb, taking youmoment by moment through the crisis in the cockpit. I had recently read the actual transcript of the Cockpit Voice Recorder tape taken from the plane, and while it clearly shows urgency and melee, it couldn't relay all of the tension and...

This review is from: Hijacked: The True Story Of The Heroes Of Flight 705 (Hardcover)
I first read about this story in Reader's Digest and was so engrossed in it that I went to my local Bookstore and ordered it shipped "RUSH". I was raised at an airport and have been an avid follower of aviation. I found this book to have a GREAT balance of technical and lay details of aviation. Furthermore, I had a long talk with a FedEx 727 Captain who was "Non-Reving" on our airline about this incident, he knows this crew personally and was there at the Memphis airport when this happened. He also thought that the book was well written and quite accurate and realistic. I LOVE true stories of courage and strength. I was not disappointed in the purchase of this book. GOOD LUCK to David, Jim, and Andy and their families. Our prayers are with you all. Dave ... Thanx for a GREAT Book. God Bless ... mike

4.0 out of 5 stars Hijacked a runaway hit!, December 2, 1999
This review is from: Hijacked: The True Story Of The Heroes Of Flight 705 (Hardcover)
I'm surprised at the number of people I come across who have never heard of this book's subject matter -- the attempted hijacking of a Fedex cargo airplane by a disgruntled pilot-employee. When one mentions that it was a cargo airplane, people usually respond with a frown. "Why on earth would anyone want to hijack a cargo airplane?" they ask. Well, read the book and find out; it covers an amazing story. I found the book very difficult to put down -- just the kind I like. The technical details were very accurate and, especially to my liking, the book was very well written. I'll promise you this: if you like suspense, you won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Really Good Book, April 7, 2002
By
This review is from: Hijacked (Mass Market Paperback)
This book really reads fast, the only thing that slowed me down was that I kept telling my wife bits from the pages. When the attack took place the author does a great job of making you see the full event? I do not even remember hearing much about this in the past but here are all the facts. It really makes the hardened cockpit doors look like a long overdue idea. Sometimes with airline books you get a lot of pilot speak that is hard to understand but not here - the author does a great job of explaining everything, almost like if he were with you in the living room while you read. You also really get to feel for the victims of this madman. You do not have to be interested in airlines to get a lot out of this book; it is just an overall great read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hijacked, September 1, 2000

As a commercial pilot myself, I found this book impossible to put down. I first learned of the story on a television documentary, and had to read the book for more details. While pilots routinely train for all sorts of emergencies (fires, engine failures, electrical failures, etc.), a brutal hijacking like this is something that you don't train for, much less even think about. I found the author spent a little too much time on human elements (families, backgrounds, etc.), but the book still makes excellent reading for pilots and non-pilots alike. After reading this book, those with any sort of flying phobia should feel very satisfied with the capabilities of cockpit crews and aircraft.

5.0 out of 5 stars Astounding!, July 12, 2000
This review is from: Hijacked (Mass Market Paperback)
I bought this book in an airport bookshop about five minutes before departure and in 4 days had it completed. This is perhaps the BEST book ever published. If you follow my reviews, you know I like true accounts, and real events. Well let me tell you, YOU ARE THERE. Hijacked takes you along on the April day in 1994 when a disgruntled employ tried (niotice I said tried) to hijack a fully loaded DC-10 cargo plane. You are shown the the events leading up to the day, the things that actually went on; from takeoff to landing; and the aftermath. This is my Five star list simply because you couldnt rate any higher. I cannot use words to stress the bravery of the crew and the efforts of all involved in this tragedy. Read this and you will see a story of true American heroism at work. An amazing book

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable!, June 3, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Hijacked: The True Story Of The Heroes Of Flight 705 (Hardcover)
I knew about this story before I read the book. My husband flies for FedEx, but was not involved in the incident. If this had been written as fiction, readers would have thought it "over the top," as it is so hard to believe what these pilots survived. I read this book in 2 days and even though I knew most of the details, I could not put it down. I felt like I'd witnessed the event. As an airline pilot's wife, I found the telling of the pilots' personal stories to be relevant and most compelling.

This review is from: Hijacked: The True Story Of The Heroes Of Flight 705 (Hardcover)
Since I live in Memphis I was around when this happened and could not believe what had taken place. Also the book gives a background on the pilots and tells a lot of what was not found out by the average person just by watching the news and finding out through the grapevine. I enjoyed this bokk because it keept you glued to the book and wanting to know what happens next. I hope more of you will take the oppertuity to try this book and enjoy it for its true and good story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book!, April 25, 2000

I liked this Book so much that when it arrived I was not able to put it down. I read all 319 pages the same day that the book arrived. I did like the background information given about the pilots before the flight, though I didn't agree with the way as the book comes to climax it cuts away to tell you background information on another character. Overall it was still a great book and I would highly recomend reading it.

Thanks for the quick service. Didn't know it would be and X-Library book. Just a note for a better description next time. Good price and quick service. Oh, the book is a great read especially if you are in aviation technology and/or a FedEx employee. Get the book, you won't be sorry.[...]

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book! True Story!, December 21, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Hijacked (Mass Market Paperback)
Great book! I met one of the pilots this book is written about. I found out that he only lives about 20 miles from me. He also signed my book! What an amazing story of courage and skill and terror! This book is well written. My only complaint is that I wish I hadn't bought the book from "Bookmans Exchange" on Amazon. It was supposed to be "Like New" and when I received it, the book looked in "poor" shape, very yellowed with writing on the outside of the book. It was NOT AT ALL "Like New" as Bookmans Exchange had said. Don't buy from them. However the book is great and even better because now I know one of the pilots that it was written about. They have a terrifying, captivating story to tell. They are blessed to be alive after what happened to them! Buy the book from a reputable dealer on Amazon.
