3.0 out of 5 stars kingdom heart's theme song
Hikaru Utada is a great singer, in my opinion. Hikari is most known as the kingdom heart's theme song. but actually, te song is a slow song. The cd has remixes and the original version. there are 4 tracks to the cd. It's a good cd, but all the songs sound the same to me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Transcends its "Kingdom Hearts" fame, January 25, 2004
This review is from: Hikari (Audio CD)
Though I'm an American I've lived in Japan for greater than 5 years and I've watched Utada Hikaru grow from a confused but talented girl with her "First Love" album into an exquisite woman with amazing talent and expressiveness. This song, though advertised as a single here for its fame in the PS2 game "Kingdom Hearts" appears in its original form on her "Deep River" album.

I cannot begin to describe how much feeling is in this song. Few songs carry the weight that Hikari does. Perhaps it is my understanding of her own life that conveys so much meaning into this tune.

I guarantee that anyone will enjoy this song whether you can understand the lyrics or not. It's moving, very well performed and quite simply one of the best songs that was released in 2002.

There's a music video for this song that is quite simply done but gives so much extra meaning to the theme in the lyrics of being in love and wanting to be successful in a relationship -- the video is a single camera feed that never cuts away and it is a shot of her washing dishes in a kitchen sink.

I get asked a lot, so the lyrics in English are (excuse my translation):

Quietly stand at the exit
And shoot a light into the darkness

Nowadays promises
Just make me uneasy, I guess
I just want to put my wishes into words
I'll introduce you to my family
Surely it'll go well

No matter when, always the two of us
Because no matter when, I'll be by your side
You're the light that finds me
In the middle of the night

No matter when, always the two of us
Because no matter when, I'll be by your side
You're the light that finds me
In the middle of the night

Enter a noisy street
And take off the mask of fate

You're reading too far ahead
Stop such meaningless things
Let's eat something delicious today
The future is so far ahead
I can't even understand it

Don't let this be complete--make it better
Because it's good to shoot one scene at a time
You're the light that reveals
My trust

Let's talk some more
About the tomorrow before our very eyes
Turn off the TV and watch
Only me alone

No matter how often, I can't stop believing
I'll be next to you in times like those
You're the light that finds me
In the middle of the night

Let's talk some more
About the tomorrow before our very eyes
Turn off the TV and watch
Only me alone

Let's talk some more
About the tomorrow before our very eyes
Turn off the TV and watch
Only me alone

5.0 out of 5 stars this is truely one of hikaru's best singles yet!!!!, December 29, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Hikari (Audio CD)
In my opinion one of Utada Hikarus best cd singles is Hikari. It was released in 2002 and was the second Utada Hikaru cd that I purchased.

There are four tracks on the cd:

1. Hikari
2. Hikari - Godson Mix
3. Hikari - PLANITb Remix
4. Hikari - original karaoke

The first track, Hikari, is about five minutes long. It is a very nice song with well thought out lyrics. I think that many people can relate to the lyrics of this song, and I think that is one of the reasons why it is so popular.

The song is very well written, both the music and lyrics. When you listen to this song you get all kinds of feelings.

It can make you cry, but it also can also be encouraging, and very inspiring.

Hikaru combines saddens, hope, and joy in one song.

Track number two, Hikari - PLANITb Remix, is something good to dance to.

It has the same lyrics as track one, but it is sung faster.

Some songs are sung too fast in remixes, and it makes the song seem too rushed, like someone is shoving it down your throat.

In this remix, the song is very fast paced, but instead of sounding like she's just rushing threw the song, Hikaru adds lots of life to it, making it sound more natural.

The third song on this cd, Hikari- Godson Mix, is kind of a mix between the first two songs. While the first song is sung slowly, and the second is sung fast, this song is sung at a pace some were in between the two. It is a good song that has a fun pop sounding side to it.

The fourth track is simply the Karaoke for the first track. This is one of my favorite things that Hikaru does. I love it when she includes karaoke's, and/or instrumental versions of her songs.

I think this track is great whether you're singing along, or just listening to it. It is nice to listen to, and makes you realize how much work is put into the back ground music.

I think the cover and back pictures are good. The back picture is my favorite because it is a nice picture of Hikaru.

The cd is a simple grey color with white writing on it, but I think it looks great and is perfect for the whole look and feeling of the single.

The cd also comes with the lyrics for Hikari. That's another thing I love. Hikaru always includes the lyrics to her songs.

Over all I rate this single five stars. Whether you can understand the lyrics or not I think you will enjoy it.

If you like this cd I recommend Colors, another single by Hikaru. It includes the songs, Colors, Simple and Clean, Simple and Clean- PLANITb Remix, and Colors-Karaoke.

I also recommend the sound track of Kingdom Hearts, which includes the instrumental version of Hikari, and other songs by Hikaru, and other artists.

allso, check out fukai mori -dai (do as infinity)

5.0 out of 5 stars Hikaru!!!, May 26, 2002

Hikaru Utada is the single most popular singer in Japan :] Her new CD Deep River, which comes out next month on the 19th, is the number one seller at cdjapan.co.jp, amazon.co.jp, and probably all over Japan. Her music is upbeat and she also has some great love songs like "Eternally" and the famous "First Love". This new single is especially upbeat and it also serves as the theme song for the PS2 video game Kingdom Hearts. Hikaru is the one and only princess of Jpop, although there are new up-and-comers like Mai Kuraki and BoA. I also recommend Namie Amuro, she's another one of Japan's greats.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great song, Great single, December 11, 2005

'Hikari' is the Japanese theme song for the game 'Kingdom Hearts'.

It starts out in full force then suddenly stops, just long enough to frighten you with the thought that the disc is busted.
The song is incredibly tight, with inffectious hooks and spot-on vocals and instrumentation.
The melody is slightly different from the English version, so for anyone who knows the English version, this will be an interesting listen.

The single also contains two remixes and a karaoke track.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelivable...Just heart-wrenchingly beautiful..., January 24, 2003

Ever play the game Kingdom Hearts? Oh well, even if you didn't, this track is a must have.

Vocals - Utada sings beautifully. Her vocal span is simply jaw-dropping. The feel of this song is truly expressed through her vocals. Slow yet fast, mournful yet joyful, this song is her best.

Music - Very nice. Mystical and fitting. The chourus sounds particulalry beautiful.

Lyrics - Are lovely. Simple yet the sort of thing you're still thinking of afterwards. Very fitting for hte game and it's charcters (Riku especially)

The title is 'Hikari' which means 'light' in Japanese. The English title is Simple n' Clean, which is the English version, also performed by her. That's good, but nearlya s good as the orignal!

This is NOT the remix that appears in most of the commericals, it's the original that plays at the end of the game. It's in japanese. Don't let that stop you. If you enjoy video games, anime or just good msuic, buy it.

You will not be dissapointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars donna toki datte~~~, September 19, 2003

This review is from: Hikari (Audio CD)
Wonderful, wonderful, WONDERFUL! I love this song! I have to say that this is one of her best songs she has written and to make it even better, it is place in my favourite games: Kingdom Hearts.

Hikki is very powerful in this song; it starts out with a powerful note: "Donna toki datte~~~" and then it slows with a nice ballad-like rendition. One of my favourite lines that reminds me so much of Kingdom Hearts is: The light that is you finds me, in the midst of night.... Of course, this is not a review for Kingdom Hearts, so I'll stop there...=)

I am always moved by this song everytime I listen to it, and it is good to be able to understand Japanese to fully catch the power of the song, but nonetheless, I would recommend this to anyone...

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, Beautiful!, March 29, 2002

Hikari, is Utada Hikaru's latest single after five months since her last. Hikari is the theme to a new anime.
Totally unlike her previous songs that had an R'n'B flare to them. Hikari is a passionate ballad completely self penned and arranged. With a gorgeous tempo and Hikki's flowing vocals playing off the beats and emotion felt by the song.
You don't need to speak japanese to understand how much effort Utada Hikaru puts into the lyrics to show how much talent she has and how great this emotional ballad is. Perfect. My favourite Utada Hikaru song yet!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hikki's Child: Hikari, April 28, 2007
This review is from: Hikari (Audio CD)
In my opinion, "Hikari" is one of Hikki's strongest works to date. Just from looking at the title of the song, you can see a similarity to Hikki's name and that's on purpose. Hikki has said herself various times that this song is one of her favorites and means a lot to her. Essentially, this song is one of "Hikki's children" as all her songs but especially this one in particular.

"Hikari" is an amazing song from so many angles. First the lyrics are what really convey the meaning of the song. With a powerful phrase such as [the light called "you" finds me in the darkness] and other simple phrases such as [I'll introduce you to my family, I'm sure you'll get along well] and [Let's eat something delicious], Hikki really makes the song known. Also the music is interesting as it keeps one melody and then switches to a slightly faster melody at certain points. By hearing the song, the element of light comes to mind [at least for me anyway]. Also Hikki's voice really stands out this one. The studio version is great but if you hear it live, then you can really feel the full effect of the song. Anyway, "Hikari" is amazing and goes down in history as one of Hikki's best songs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hikaru Utada - Light, April 1, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Hikari (Audio CD)
This new song debuted as #1 in Official Oricon chart and is atm #1 in Japanese top 40, FM Chart and Space Shower tv chart. Being Finnish, I at first didn't know a word she was singing, but that maybe let me concentrate at her voice better. Anyway beautiful song, clear backgrounds and great voice make this #1 hit, listenable even by my friends who are always complaining about my music taste. Must buy, better than her previous hit traveling I would say.
