I really enjoy this anime series. It's much different than most I have seen. It's amazing how much emotion and suspense can be generated over a board game. There's no violence although there is a lot of competition. It's a look into what it must be like to be very young and extremely talented in a very competitive arena. It's also a portrait of intense desire to excel and achieve and there are some characters who fail along the way to achieve their expectations. I recommend starting with the first DVD in the series. The manga is just as good but the anime is not a slave to the manga, which makes it even better.
