This review is from: Hikaru No Go, Vol. 4 - The Ghost in the Net (DVD)
I've been following the Manga up through volume 9 now. I only recently started on the Anime series. I expected that the Anime would be a shadow of the Manga, but the opposite seems to be true. The DVD episodes are very rich with characterization and plot. I'm continually amazed that so much emotion, tension and interest can be generated over a plot which is basically a bunch of kids playing a board game. The decisions that all of the characters face are not easy and their response are genuinely human, not contrived or simplistic.

4.0 out of 5 stars Such a neat show..., January 2, 2012
This review is from: Hikaru No Go, Vol. 4 - The Ghost in the Net (DVD)
I came across this anime a couple years ago and really liked it from the beginning. The manga books are very well done with beautiful art and layout. The English anime is not bad either, but unfortunately, due to rumors of Shonen Jump wanting to focus more attention to their more popular shows like Naruto and Bleach, the DVDs for this show were discontinued after volume 11. I think they also had made volume 12 in English, but then never released it. While the English actors are not all the best, the show was still enjoyable and I would've appreciated it for Shone Jump to continue releasing the rest of the DVDs. It wasn't like the show had a million volumes to release like Naruto, so I don't understand why they had to discontinue it as it was a very worthy show. The characters are intelligent thinking and know better than to yell out loud what their next move is (unlike the characters in a certain ninja anime like to do!).
