This title covers numerous hiking locations within an hour or two of Cincinnati (the 60 mile radius is actually from Cincinnati's loop interstate, I-275). The author pulls together information in an easy to read and follow style, the maps are well done and clean (too much clutter can take away from a map's value), and the trail descriptions are accurate. There are sections that cover hike preparation for those unfamiliar with trail gear. This is not a book for the hardcore hiker as anyone who fits that category and lives in the Cincinnati area will have already tackled the toughest hikes this book has to offer (such as Clifty Falls), but this title is excellent for those who want to explore the Queen City region and find hikes in the three to six mile range. Good book!

We really like this book. There is an amazing amount of detail for each hike and the hikes are very well organized. I would definitely recommend this book to others.

We've lived in Cincinnati for over 20 years but were unaware of many of these great places to hike. It is informative and well organized.

I was interested in this book after hearing the author speak on a local news program. I was interested in getting my children, ages 7 and 4, out into woods that were different than the ones right behind our house. We have taken several of the hikes that our close to us and enjoyed all of them. Although some of the hikes are in State Parks, and I knew those trails existed, the author has picked the best ones. There are also hikes to areas that are near our home and I didn't know existed. There are lots of tips for how to get started and hiking with children. I also like how the hikes are arranged in many ways. The main focus is on location, but there are lists that are sorted by length, difficulity, fun for kids, wildflowers, and more. Those helped with deciding which trails to start with. The only drawback we have found is the author points out landmarks and such with mile marks. We don't have a GPS (and you don't need one) except if you want to follow these references. We have done okay without a GPS, just using her descriptions but it is something I thought worth mentioning.

I actually looked at this book at a bookstore. It would have cost me $10.00 MORE. The book I DID get from Amazon was in BETTER CONDITION than the one in the bookstore. Thanks Amazon!

This book is rather generous with its definition of 60 miles, but very particular with the description of hike details. I wish the maps had lighter lines defining other trails in the parks/preserves as it is sometimes difficult to determine which trail to take when they split. Overall, though, it's a really good guide and gives a wide variety of hikes throughout the area. We're trying to do every hike in the book.

Covering the city of Cincinnati and its surrounding regions, this guide form the American Hiking Society covers man aspects of what a hiker needs to know, such as the amount of shade available, how long is it open, and other special features. "60 Hikes Within 60 Miles" is a must have for any hiker in the region.
