They bought a spool of cheap cord and heat shrunk some plastic on the ends in their spare time on the weekends.

Unable to find decent boot laces locally, I broke down and bought a couple pair of these online. They seem much sturdier than the stuff in the local store and the only complaint that I have is not necessarily relevant to the intended consumer. I wanted them for a couple old pairs of Red Wing work boots; these laces are a little thicker and softer than the original laces for those boots. They seem to be more intended for use in hiking boots which use wire eyelets not work boots where the upper eyelets are actually hooks. I wonder if they will hold up to daily use with this type of boots or will they fray on the hooks. Time will tell and I'll try to remember to report back.

Edit: (much later...) I would kick these up to five stars if I could. Despite appearing for all the world to be a hiking boot lace they are holding up quite well to use in work boots.

I've backpacked throughout the US and parts of Asia. These are without a doubt the best made real laces I've seen in years. They are made from twisted lacing and not that cheap (rope covered with a sleeve) junk sold by most sellers. The ends are also shrunk wrapped and fit into the eyes on my hiking boots. The company sent them quickly and they listen to their customers.

The laces are thin but they feel very strong, even after a few months wear and tear. I bought two pair originally thinking my boots would eat through them faster than it has. The only downside is that the surface of the lace is fairly slippery, so tying them the first month or two and getting the knot to stick is a bit of a chore. It's well worth it though.

I choose these laces because of the style, they would have gone well with expensive backpacking boots. The product sent to me was not what was pictured. They were cheap, plain brown laces. All the vender said was, if you don't like them , return them.

One of the shoe strings broke within two weeks. Other places on the laces were just about ready to break. Really disappointed in this product. I needed laces for my Solo hiking boots.

This lace is OK. Nothing fancy. I liked the laces that came with my Timberland hiking boots better, but this will suffice as those wore out.

I have been unable to find brown hiking boot laces anywhere. They are perfect! Right color right length and came before the expected date.
