Good reading!,

This review is from: Hiking Georgia (Falcon Guides Hiking) (Paperback)
The trail reviews are pretty comprehensive and informative, and quite interesting. Trails are rated for difficulty on a simple easy-moderate-strenuous scale, and the reviews are obviously written from a first-hand observer's view. I heartily recommend it to a casual hiker like myself, and it seems that there is useful information for experienced hikers as well.

Good resource, but take a map,

This review is from: Hiking Georgia, 2nd (Paperback)
This book has a comprehensive list of hiking trails in Georgia, and has good descriptions. My only caution would be to reference a map when driving to the trailhead. I followed the directions in the book on a recent hike and got lost, later to find the directions included at least one typo and were either out of date (Highway numbers changed) or just wrong.

There is a 2006 3rd edition available from Amazon which does not get linked here for some reason. I am buying that to replace the first edition which we have used for many years. Hikes are sorted by area, well described and rated for difficulty.

This is only a bit dated. The book has great information, and any update information can easily be found. Great buy.

Terrible,
This review is from: Hiking Georgia, 2nd (Paperback)
This book is awful. While the author describes every irrelevant detail of the trail, he consistently gives bad directions on how to get to the trailhead! My family and I have spent far too much time in the car and not on the trail due to this misinformation.
Additionally, these are pretty boring hikes; most are too short and there aren't many views offered. Any "hike' that has a parking lot at its peak can't be worthy of a real hiking book. |
