This guide describes and illustrates over 120 dayhikes at 40 areas throughout Central Missouri. The hiking areas were chosen to demonstrate the geologic, topographic, floral and faunal diversity of our region. Designed primarily for families, naturalists and weekend explorers, the guide is illustrated with maps and photos. For each hiking area, the following information is provided: 1. Trail routes, mileage, difficulty, terrain and walking time 2. A narrative describing the natural and historic features of the area 3. Specific directions to the area from regional cities and highways
The guide's introduction includes a discussion of Central Missouri's landscape and Appendix I provides an overview of the region's natural history. Appendix II lists conservation organizations of Mid-Missouri and encourages readers to support these vital groups. A Bibliography and Index complete the guide.
