_Hiking the Red_ is golden,
By A Customer
This review is from: Hiking the Red: A Complete Trail Guide to Kentucky's Red River Gorge (Paperback)
For those who plan on visiting the Red River Gorge for the first time as well as for those familiar with this natural treasure, Stone and Warne's new book is a valuable and enjoyable companion. It offers the reader pragmatic information on where to go and what to do, but it also gives more: a sense of love for the Gorge and its environs and gentle reminders to tread lightly and leave no trace in this much-loved and much-visited area.

Best guide to Red River Gorge, KY,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Hiking the Red: A Complete Trail Guide to Kentucky's Red River Gorge (Paperback)
This book is amazingly thorough and more up-to-date than a couple of other books about the same region - ex: Kentucky's Land of the Arches - it was a good book, but was written in the 70's, updated in the 80's, and the trails and markers have been modified since then. On the flip-side, though, Land of the Arches has some great local lore included in the trail descriptions...
The only drawback to Hiking the Red is its price: it's a great guide if you regularly hike the Gorge region, but probably not worth the money if you're just going on one casual trip. |
