Hiking Washington's Geology is a well-written, informative book that describes the geologic evolution of a wide and varied landscape. I especially appreciate the detailed directions on how to get to the trailheads and equally detailed descriptions of things to look for while hiking. This book is a must-have for anyone interested in the geologic natural history of Washington....

This book lists 56 hikes. Of those only 16 are represented for the eastern side of the state beyond US 97. Talk about a shock. The greatest flood in North American history gathers only another hike or two. If you hadn't figured it out by the print date, this book is an older version of Hiking Guide to Washington Geology.

What is represented is well written. Distances, difficulty, elevation, Topo maps and Geo map, key references and precautions begin each hike. What is missing is required permits and regulations. Those, while not affecting the actual hike, certainly aid the hiker in getting there.

Overall, I love the book as much as I love the varied geology of the Nevergreen Side of the Evergreen State.

If you like to hike and want to learn more about the geology along the way I highly recommend this Book. Scott only includes places where he has hiked. The result is an excellent book.
