From the Author

Welcome to the wet and wild world of Colorado waterfalls! I personally visited each and every one of the 150 waterfalls featured in Hiking Waterfalls in Colorado, taking notes, photos, and GPS tracks and waypoints to ensure the most accurate and up-to-date information on the waterfalls of the state.

Hiking Waterfalls in Colorado includes details you won't find in other guidebooks, magazines, or on the Internet, and serves as a go-to guide for selecting that just-right waterfall for your next backpacking trip, family outing, or romantic getaway. With this guide - and your Colorado sense of adventure - you'll discover amazing drive-ups, hikes, and treks to Colorado's stunning array of punchbowls, plunge pools, bridal veils, cascades, and cataracts. Like me, you may just want to visit them all!

More About the Author

Susan Joy Paul has hiked, climbed, snow shoed, rappelled, and at times - when the winds above 14,000 feet were screaming - crawled across the state of Colorado, reaching the summits of more than five hundred mountains along the way.

In her first book, Touring Colorado Hot Springs 2nd., Susan took a break to relax and revitalize at thirty-two of the state's best hot springs.

In Hiking Waterfalls in Colorado, Susan visits one hundred and fifty of the state's waterfalls. The research was a labor of love, taking Susan hundreds of miles on foot, climbing tens of thousands of feet up, in search of the best falls. She completed the hikes in one year's time - nearly all of them solo - taking photos, GPS tracks and detailed notes to create vivid and accurate maps and directions. With this book, Susan shares the splendor of these wonderful, water-full, waterfall hikes with like-minded adventurers.

I have shelves and shelves full of Colorado hiking guides, so I didn't run right out and buy this one when it came out. However, as soon as I saw it in a store, I knew I had to buy it, as it just reeks of quality. This guide has a great selection of hikes all over the Colorado mountains. The information is up-to-date, well-researched, and well-written. While I haven't read the whole book (yet), the descriptions of waterfalls that I'm familiar with (mostly Colorado Springs area) are all spot-on, with good directions, maps, and pictures of each one. Nicely done!

As a self-proclaimed waterfall aficionado, I was eager to peruse a guidebook to one of my favorite pastimes…hiking to waterfalls. This book is a reasonably comprehensive compendium of some of the best waterfalls in Colorado. Unfortunately, I can't give it 5 stars…I would rate it 3.5 if that were an option…because there is a dearth of falls from central Colorado, where I live, and none from the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness. I understand that there are limits on the number of hikes a guidebook of this size can include. But a good many of the "falls" in this book actually are cascades that pale in comparison to Fravert Basin Falls, Geneva Lake Falls or Minnehaha Falls. The falls on East Cross Creek (Holy Cross Wilderness) below the Bowl of Tears also is missing. I referred to this area as "Shangri-la" when I first saw it from the west side of Halfmoon Pass en route to the Mount of the Holy Cross…certainly a must-see for any waterfall chaser.

Finding waterfalls can be a difficult task sometimes, but Susan's book gives you all the info you'll need to be a Falls Bagger. I take this book (and her other guidebook, 'Touring Colorado Hot Springs') on all of my roadtrips in Colorado so I can check a few more off the list here and there.
