Brutal oriental death metal, February 3, 2009
This review is from: Hilal (Audio CD)
This band is formed by a bunch of ethnic Arab guys from France. This album is a death metal album with strong influence of Arab music. Many oriental instruments have been played on this album - oud, darbuka, tabla, bouzuki, plus some female vocals. In terms of brutality, Arkan's music is something between Nile and Orphaned Land. Album's concept is somewhat similar to Mabool, but it's much more brutal and with much more growling and imho it's nearer to Nile's fans' taste.
Lyrics are influenced by religion and they are mostly sung in English, with some parts in Arabic. Hilal means "crescent moon" in Arabic.
Production is fantastic, since it's done by Fredrik Nordstrom.
This CD is an awesome collectors' item, since it has never-seen-before digipack design.
