Blown Away!,
By Steve (Wisconsin) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hilary Duff (Audio CD)
I thought that Metamorphosis was good, but it's almost nothing compared to this album. This album has a much darker rock feel to it and the lyrics are deeper, which makes it so much better. I can't believe how much Hilary Duff's music has grown over time. If she keeps this stuff up she is sure to be around for a long time! Keep it up Duff!
*Fav. track is Dangerous to Know and Mr. James Dean - they rock

She does what an artist should do....,

With this album, Hilary Duff has done what so many other artists fail to do on a sophomore outing. She made a BETTER album than her first! FLY has to be one of the best songs out there right now. The tune is so catchy and meaningful, it just automatically screams HIT! Other songs on the album, such as DANGEROUS TO KNOW, are excellent because they are a bit more on the rock side, and they showcase Hilary's ability to turn up the heat a notch.
Hilary Duff is a great artist for both kids and adults. I think she has a good voice that will just get better with time, and I appreciate how she has fun, but keeps things clean. She has a natural sweetness and sex appeal about her, hopefully, she won't go the route of Britney and Christina. Keep on rockin', Hilary!

Hilary Duff's sophmore album does have its ups and downs however this album shows growth in many ways.
Overall the song choice is better than her first. You will never convince me that this is a more "rock" album as it is simply a fun pop cd. She has decided to make music that it seems she enjoys rather than what the average viewer of her tv show might enjoy, while not abandoning that audience. There are far less computer effects and alterations on this album than on the first. Hilary is not a great singer. On her first album this was hidden under layers of touch ups. On this album, you can tell she worked on her vocals and the result is an album where we finally hear her sing without many aids. There are a few bum notes even on the album, but that is a far better way to go than the way of her former album. As I said the song selection is superior. The true standout track for me and it seems many other reviwers is "The Getaway". This song is the best so far in her short career. Its is catchy and somewhat raw. Very enjoyable. I also enjoy "Weird" for its over the top chorus and overall likablity. The dramatics of "Who's That Girl" are very good as well. Maybe having an acteress sing is a good thing. She can make you feel. Other highlights include "Rock This World" and the much hyped "Haters." I would say fans of Hilary are constantly growing. And she seems to be growing with them. I dont see any reason that she can not transition from tween sensation to a true pop star for all ages.

HILARY DUFF MATURES and BEATS EXPECTATIONS,

Wow, she certainly has grown up in only a year, amazing. Her voice and style have changed and her vocals have definitely improved. Cathy melodies and meaningful lyrics add to overall quality of the album, and what makes it the success that it is. I'm sure this will only raise her popularity and help her credibility as an "artist" instead of a teeny-pop overnight sensation.
And wow, 17 tracks, pretty impressive. haha. at least she didn't rip us off! haha. AWESOME album, despite a few weird songs like "the getaway" and "dangerous to know". LOVE IT!

Alright, I bought Hilary Duff's new cd because as of late I've been on this music loving streak and everything is a potential buy. Still loving pop music at heart, and having liked some of her earlier singles (although I didn't buy Metamorphosis), I thought I'd give it a try. I'm totally blown away right now. It's definitely more rock than anything else, and the songs are just amazing. I really can't say anything bad about the songs. I've been listening to the cd in its entirety, not just picking out songs. If Hilary Duff continues to put out this kind of quality music, she'll be around for a long time.

Definitely Nothing Like Metamorphosis,

Okay, I'm a Hilary fan. I really am. But this album just isn't all that great. First of all, it seems a bit weird to self-title a sophomore album. The CD itself is good, but not great like Metamorphosis.
It seems to me that Hilary is so preoccupied with replacing her goody-goody image with something edgier, that she forgot to pay attention to detail. I mean, come on. She's Hilary Duff. She can get better songwriting than this. I think she should have concentrated more on getting well-written songs that are more suited for her vocal range, rather than just getting a more mature sound. Which leads me to my next problem with this album- Hil's voice. Now I repeat, I am a loyal Hilary Duff fan. I fell in love with her at the beginning of Lizzie McGuire and have stuck by her through the good and bad- the high points in her career and the ridicule inflicted on her fans by some because of her "poser" image. She is a phenomenal actress, and she and her sister are pretty good songwriters. She's even got a pretty voice. But she doesn't have a wide range, and it seems that on this album she tries to push herself a bit too hard. There are places where she sounds really good, but then there are times that are simply cringeworthy. All in all, it's an okay CD. I love the lyrics, they're rockish and some are really deep. "Fly" is one of this year's most awesome songs, and a few others ("The Getaway" and "Weird" come to mind) are good to listen to. Over all, however, the songs seem overproduced and a touch repetitive. A good CD for Hilary fans, but don't buy it expecting anything remotely as well produced and written as Metamorphosis.

Wow! Hilary Duff's album is very different from her first album. In METAMORPHOSIS, her songs were more pop than rock. This album, however, is more pop-rock! It took some time adjustiong to her new voice and music, and her new way of singing. Her voice seems a lot more mature now, and her songs are also more mature. I love her new songs! I'm listening to the cd right now, and my body is moving in time to the rhythm. The songs are very catchy, you will feel like you just have to dance to the music and sing along. Overall, this album in a way is better than her first album! Great job to Hilary!

Hilary Duff has come a long way since "Metamorphisis" Her vocals and music has been ranged much further than it was before. This CD has some pretty sweet songs such as 1, 8, and 15, but those aren't the only cool songs on this CD. This Cd is much better than her first but it is a little different.

Hilary Duff's new cd review,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Hilary Duff (Audio CD)
1. Fly: This song is very cool. Deep even.
2. Do You Want Me?: Good song, it doesn't sound right somehow though. 3. Weird: I think this is a great song! 4. Hide Away: Very moving. 5. Mr. James Dean: A little strange, but definetly rocky. 6. Underneath This Smile: Ok song. 7. Dangerous To Know: Definetly angsty, a little strong I think for what I've gotten used to with Hilary's music. 8. Who That's Girl? A good message to this song. 9. Shine: Nice song, but I don't think it's the greatest or anything. 10. I Am: Good song, very typical teeny bop song though. 11. The Getaway: Good song, a little confusing though. 12. Cry: A little too slow, takes awhile to really get into it. 13. Haters: I like this song, it's got a good message as well. 14. Rock This World: Ok, has the same kind of message as "I Am" though. 15. Someone's Watching Over Me: Good song all in all. 16. Jericho: I like this song even though it's kind of confusing. 17. The Last Song: Good, but I think it's a little strange and short as was "Inner Strength"

Who's that Girl? living my life,
By bryhil_04 (Ontario, Canada) - See all my reviews

3 words, Hilary Duff Rules!! This girl is truly a gift from God, she's made an amazing debut album, an awesome concert dvd, a sweet and cute show where she absolutely shines, and many starring roles. The girl is talented, what more could you want? How about an excellent follow up album? Oh wait, she just did that. And I have to say, it's better then her first album. She starts writing too, in Mr. James Dean and Haters, and possibly Rock this World, though it could possibly be her sister too. Some songs that demonstrate how amazing this album is, are: Fly, Mr. James Dean, Who's that Girl?, The Getaway and Jericho. Here's my review:
Fly- 5/5 Everyone's heard this song by now, it's so catchy, I love it. The chorus rocks and verses are nifty. Do you want Me?- 4.5/5 The verses are different and unique, the chorus is smashing. Weird- 4.5/5 Excellent, great rock song. Hide Away- 4/5 It's a decent slow song. Mr. James Dean- 5/5 Some people may not like it cause of her yelling during the chorus, I admit, I didn't like it that much at first either, but it doesn't take long to love it. Underneath this Smile- 4/5 A good song, just in the midst of pop and rock. Dangerous to Know- 5/5 Amazing, I love this song. Who's that Girl?- 5/5 The chorus is catchy, and the verse would be relevant to something by Vanessa Carlton or Avril Lavigne. Which is fine with me. Two excellent artists as well. Shine- 4.5/5 The verse is so catchy that you forget the chorus even exists. Simply astonishing. I Am- 5/5 Definitely one of my favourites, it's really positive and leaves you with a good feeling afterwards, terrific!! The Getaway- 5/5 Amazing start, strong through, and a perfect ending, what more could you want? Rockish Cry- 4.5/5 Slow and catchy, I like it. Haters- 4/5 Loses points for the lyrics, but besides that, the song is great. But she does make a point, but I won't go into it. I'm on her side though. Rock this World- 5/5 Who can't help but rock with this girl, this song is the best!! Someone's Watching over Me- 5/5 So beautiful, almost puts me to tears, ok, maybe not, but it really is magnificent. Jericho- 5/5 & can I add another 5 stars to that? But that would be unrealistic, this song however, deserves it. Just the last minute is played out so beautifully it gives the chills. It just simply fantastic!! The best song on the cd, no question at all. The Last Song- 4.5/5 So much better then the Inner Strength interlude, her vocals have gotten much better. This one actually turns into a song and has much more meaning to it. It's very well done, not to mention that her sister wrote part of it. Overall, a much better album then her first, it shows that she's grown as a person, and I think this girl will be around a lot longer then people think. She's doing great, and I think people need to cut her some slack, she's just turned 17, she was only 15 recording her first album. She's just an overall nice girl, and I think that bothers a lot of people because she's not as confident as Christina or Avril, but she'll get there. Or people hate her because she's a good girl, or she seems fake, but unlike Britney, she isn't fake, she's totally real. It's just how she is, and she can't ever break from that, she's my idol and I'll stick up for her. & there are special features included, but not much, just a little survey, what's your favourite song, and that kinda stuff. It's a fantastic album, I recommend this to anyone who just wants to let loose and just listen to some well, I won't say rock and roll, cause that makes me think of the 50's, but pop/rock. She can rock, and any Hilary fan should have it!! |
