'Hillbilly Bone': Fewer Tracks, Greater Value,
By Antoine D. Reid "80sforever" (Durham, NC United States) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Hillbilly Bone (Audio CD)
When I read that Blake Shelton was going to release a new album, I was excited. He's one of those underrated country artist that churn out songs that are fun, light and have a knack for embracing his Southern roots. Then I read that there's something special about 'Hillbilly Bone' - it's an EP rather than a full album. I was a bit disappointed considering his last album 'Startin' Fires' came out in 2008 and that this album would only have six tracks (it's amusingly being marketed as Blake Shelton's 'six pack' album). After reading more about this concept and listening to the album, I have to say that for the most part I liked it. Yes, there are only 6 tracks but the plan is for another 'six pack' album to be released later on in the year, and perhaps another in 2011. With the EP being only half the number of tracks as a regular album, the price has really been slashed to make it a value. In short, fewer tracks, but the promise of new music coming more often and at a more reasonable price.
The Good: With there only being 6 tracks, obviously more thought was put into making each track count and worth purchasing. There's a pretty even balance between the uptempo and slower songs, neither seeming to dominate the album. Shelton, as always, is at his best on the faster-pace songs. 'Hillbilly Bone' is fun, has a great beat and feels like a a real Southern/country anthem that features Trace Adkins. 'Kiss My Country A*s' is another song that's upbeat and features Shelton embracing, in a very un-apologetic manner, his Southern background. As with many of his songs like this, I found the lyrics to be amusing and the overall song to really be addictive. 'Almost Alright' rounds out the uptempo set list, having a bit of a Caribbean/summer flare to it and actually neatly wraps up this short album. Of the slower songs, 'You'll Always Be Beautiful' works and sounded the best. The Bad: The album is really short and with it being an EP, after you're done listening to all of the songs it feels a bit incomplete and as if there should be more. I know, part of the reason of keeping the track list short is to keep the price down. Plus, there are new songs on the horizon for later in the year. Yet, I feel like the album could have used something more to round out the tracks: perhaps a live performance, maybe a remix of a song on this album or from a previous one, maybe one more track all together. The slower songs, when compared to the fast-beat, explosive, fun ones, felt a tad bit less interesting after a listen. In all, good concept, great price, decent/good overall album. Definitely hope this 'six pack' idea will indeed mean more music from Blake Shelton throughout the year, but for now this is a nice follow-up to his last album and for whatever may follow next. Definitely worth checking out. Listen To These: 'Hillbilly Bone', 'Kiss My Country A*s'

Interesting Concept...,

I really like Blake Shelton..but at first I was puzzled with the whole "6-pack" album. After listening to it, I have to say every song on it is great...
In today's world of illegal downloads, I can see why something like this could work...you get half the songs..for half the price... All in all, I really like the songs...it makes me to want to hear more...so yeah when his next "6-pack" is released, I'll be getting that as well....

can I get a version without the jokes,
By Ray Sola (Tucson, AZ USA) - See all my reviews

I actually like the songs and would have given it more stars, except for the jokes which are part of the song tracks. They may be cute the first time you listen to the CD, but if you want to listen to the CD over and over or put it on for background music, you don't need to hear them. They are annoying and reduce the enjoyment of the CD.

I love Blake Shelton he has an awesome voice! I was a little disappointed to find that only 6 songs were on here but then again that was my fault because I didn't really look closely at the album. None the less, I still love it!

This CD was terrific and I didn't want it to end. I have to wrap my brain around the concept of the 6 song CD, because as it was intended to it just left me wanting to hear more. Kudos to Blake and team for coming up with the idea. Can't wait for and will buy the next one.

Get your hands on Blake Shelton's Six Pak!,
By CountryGal "pamela" (Ireland) - See all my reviews

Blake has decided to release a special six pak EP titled Hillbilly Bone with another EP to follow later in the year.
It includes the title track and his big hit with Trace Adkins Hillbilly Bone, which is all very tongue in cheek.Another humorus uptempo is Kiss My Country Ass,which features Blake embracing his southern roots. As always his voice really shines on his ballads, such as You'll Always Be Beautiful and the lovely Delilah which is the stand out track on the album. If you're already a Blake Shelton fan then you're obviously going to love this.If you're new to Blake's music, think Trace Adkin's mixed in with some George Strait. So sit back and enjoy Blake's hillbilly bone! Prime cuts: Hillbilly Bone, Delilah

If you love Blake Shelton you will love this 6 Pack!,
This review is from: Hillbilly Bone (Audio CD)
Here is the no BS of this CD, Blake and his crew are making a huge statement here with trying something new for so many reasons!
The economy sucks and alot of us don't have alot of disposable income. So this CD for 6.00 is a better deal then just buying the songs you think you like! (listen to the whole CD you'll love it I swear) If you are a fan of @blakeshelton you know that this CD is all him! With songs like Kiss my Country A$$ and Delilah (which has a great story behind it) You are getting a great deal. The other plus, with this 6 pack more music will come out sooner!! We all want as much from Blake as we can get!! Just go buy it! It will be the best 6 Pack you have ever BOUGHT!!!

Six great songs by a great singer,

My only problem with this CD is I wanted more than just 6 songs. Blake has one of the best voices in country music and I love his sense of humor. This CD is a showcase for both. "Delilah" has great vocals and a nice twang. "Hillbilly Bone" and "Kiss My Country Ass" are catchy and fun. This CD 6-pak is a must for all Blake fans and country fans in general.
