After listening to this album I was puzzled was this a joke as the album says. So I did some research and come to find out this is an album that was recorded some time ago. It was originally titled This Ain't Country but Curb records decided not to release it which apparantly is what caused Hank to get his release from Curb records, which has become effective the first of this year. And now that he's gone Curb has released this titled as Hillbilly Joker. As for the album it is not at all like the other Hellbilly records he has released but more like an AssJack recording with a slight country twist. So if you don't like screaming and lining the pockets of some executives at Curb records don't buy this Hank says get it from a friend hint hint.

Hank III - Hillbilly Joker,
This review is from: Hillbilly Joker (Explicit) (Audio CD)
I have had most of these songs for a decade now in bootlegged form, but even though Curb Records screwed Hank over it is still nice they get an official release. This is mostly III's hellbilly style music which is a mixture of country and metal, but leans more toward the metal. If you are new to Hank III this is the stuff he plays at his live shows in between the country and metal sets. Unfortunately there are only ten songs, but they are all really cool. My only complaint is all the donkey noises added to "Hellbilly". It doesn't ruin the song, but I think I actually prefer my live bootlegged versions I have. All songs were written by Hank III which is always nice, but unlike his Assjack album where he played all instruments this time he used other musicians. He still played acoustic & electric guitar as well as bass on two tracks. It is albums like this that get to show how talented and versatile III is. Can you imagine anyone in mainstream country being able to do anything close to this kind of an album? Not many in the alt. country scene could do anything close to this either. This is one album that just flat out rocks from start to finish in Hank's own original style.

Whew! Hank III delivers this one with all the charm of a tire fire. If you like the genre--barbecue pit meets mosh pit--then "Hillbilly Joker" is for you.
The tracks are loud and raucus and Hank handles 'em well. When a song titled "Drink It, Drug It" is the calmest of the lot, you know you're in for a ride. All in all, though, it's a solid effort, with guitar licks that can knock the balls off the last-standing mechanical bull. It's a relatively short album, 10 tracks barely over a half-hour long. But at that speed, it's plenty. Enjoy.

Hank III performs music that is closer to traditional country. Remember that Hank III is also the lead singer of Assjack which is heavy thrash metal. If you're looking for the country stuff, this ain't it. Nor is it Assjack.
In concert, III starts with the country stuff and then goes into "Hellbilly" music which is best described as something between his fast country and Assjack metal. In concert, he'll do 3-5 of these songs and transition into Assjack. This album is music from that in-between transition period ... and actually leans a bit more to the heavy side with lots of distortion on electric guitars and screaming vocals. This album is on the Curb record label. It was originally called "This Ain't Country" and was recorded quite some time ago. If you're not aware of Hank's conflict with Curb, it's worth checking out. He has some strong opinions of this album and Curb. It's safe to say that Hank doesn't want to support Curb and he is now out of his contract with them. Definitely Google "curb to release hank iii" to learn more about these issues and decide if this album is one you'd like to purchase.

III does not endorse this album and neither should you. Download your own and distribute like it's weed. No more money for Curb in III's name.

Curb records has withheld this album for years refusing Hank's wishes to release it t. There were legal issues on the ownership of the music and now that Hanks contract has ended its been released. WTF? Here are hank's thoughts: "Don't buy it, but get it some other way and burn the hell out of it and give it to everyone."

Hank III and Curb have been at odds for years. This was a release Hank III wanted out a long time ago and Curb refused to release it. Now they just decided to release and III wants nothing to do with it. This is not country at all so if you're just a fan of his country, don't even bother. If you're a III fan, I'm sure he'd encourage you to download it for free instead of giving Curb any money.

Hank III says don't purchase this album. From old label he's had some issues with 'Curb'. Older songs the record company has shelved for years, and wouldn't release when he wanted too, and did now, after he's off the label, basically to stick it to him. Dont support Curb records.

Hank III doesn't see a penny of the money you spend on this album, in fact it all goes to Curb Records, who actively suppressed Hank III's music and creativity for years. In fact, this album was recorded a decade ago, and Curb refused to release it. If you want to support Hank III as an artist, DON'T buy this! It shouldn't be too hard to find another way...
