I have heard about this from other people and was sceptical, but bought it anyway. It helped my husband sleep all the way through the night on the first night in the room. He usually has a rough time getting to sleep and staying alseep, grinding his teeth and is usually very restless...not anymore. I don't wake up with headaches anymore either. My son wants one now for his room. Mine is a lot brighter than I had hoped, but putting a dark cloth over the top of it at night helps alot. I am recommending everyone get this whether they have problems sleeping or with headaches, or just plain stress (who doesn't have this?) If I had to, would I buy it again? ABSOLUTELY!!!

I have had rock salt lamps for two years now--buying them for their suggested hype that they were good for health as well as a decorative nightlite. All three adults in my household, with health problems, noticed no difference in health, better sleep, etc., using these lamps.

However, as decoration, these lamps are absolutely beautiful and a stunning addition to anyone's home. When choosing colors, don't make the mistake of matching the lamp color to your decor--because the lighter the color you choose, the brighter the lamp is--making it useless as a nightlite for anyone having difficulty getting to sleep. For example, the red lamp, when lit, glows darker (best for bedrooms)--the orange/peach colors--very bright--like a beacon from a lighthouse (if kept in a bedroom). But, if the bright colors are kept in a living room instead, then the light is appropriate (not as glaring, especially when other room lights are on) and provides wonderful ambient lighting.

I really like this rock, it not only is an ionizer but it makes a great night light.

These low-wattage lamps are made from hollowed-out Himalayan rock-salt, so are quite heavy. They're aesthetically beautiful artifacts to grace any living space and the output of the bulb is typically 15W, but this can vary a bit. The color can also vary through the spectrum from pink to orange, and they always produce a warm glow.

There are also night-light candle versions containing a naked flame; either type is the ideal low-power night light.

Certain health benefits are claimed for these crystals: the heat from the lamp causes the rock-salt molecules to diffuse into the surrounding air resulting in beneficial negative ionisation, and so on. I don't know if the science on these claims is strong, but they certainly seem to calm down the environment.

I got this lamp because it was cheap, and because I had read a little online about the air-cleaning properties of these Himilayan salt lamps. I live in a condo, and the air can get old in the winter time, since I don't open the windows. I had read online about the negative-ion-whatever benefits of these types of lamps, and this was the cheapest one I came across on Amazon, so I got it.

It looks pretty, but that's about it. I've uploaded a photo of mine - it does look pretty cool lit up. It has these diagonal striations in it that look really cool. The rock is like 8 inches high and looks real nice all lit up on a bookshelf. It's attached to this cheap wooden base, which I've also uploaded a photo of, and you can see inside that the light bulb is attached inside via a metal clip. The bulb is like a giant old christmas tree light.

A few concerns: I've had mine on for days, and have not noticed a single change in the air quality or smell of my place. People who buy these on here claim they have slept better, or notice that the air smells like a day after a rainstorm, etc. No. You will not get that with this lamp.
The lamp gets slightly warm, but I highly doubt that it gets warm enough to release negative ions, or whatever it's supposed to do.
My biggest concern, is that this item has no UL certification. The UL stands for Underwriters Laboratories, and they are an independent product safety organization based in Illinois. If you're in America, every single thing in your home that is plugged into the wall has a little tag on the end of it claiming UL inspection. What does this mean? It means that it's safe. It means you can plug it in all day long, all YEAR long, and not have to worry about it catching fire and burning down your house.
This lamp is obviously some cheap knock off made in Taiwan or Hong Kong or wherever cheap labor is these days. It took awhile to arrive, and so far it's working fine. I'm just hesitant to leave it on when I'm not home, since it has no UL Certification. But, aside from all that, it does look pretty cool, and it was pretty cheap.

The first thing I love about this light is the very pleasing, relaxing glow. Tied for second is the fact that it really does keep the air fresh. When I walk in the room, especially coming in from outside, I notice my place smells like fresh ocean air. Now that said, for those complaining it doesn't work here is what I found out. It absorbs moisture from the air to give off the neg ions and freshen the air etc. In the summer when I first got this I was disappointed that I didn't notice that. I have a friend (male and sucky housekeeper) that had one of these salt lamps and my amazement of the fresh clean smell of a messy place made me HAVE to have one of these puppies (actually I have two). Well, what I noticed was I had the air conditioner on 24/7 which takes the moisture out of the air and therefore the lamps weren't working to their full potential. They did work some but not like it with no air conditioner on.
I have it next to a plant and I actually rotate my plants near it because they seem to have a `relationship' with this light. Lol. They want to grow around it. I have all my plants with a grow light or a full spectrum bulb on them but they love this salt lamp. I would say that is a good blind study.
As an ionizer, it must work. I have it next to me where I use my laptop. I can start getting pretty jittery after awhile but not with the light on next to me. I also see a naturopathic doctor which scans for emf radiation and I check out really well on that.
The glow of the light is so relaxing. I have found I can put larger bulbs in the light (wattage) Whatever size lamp you have the next size up bulb is fine. I have a 25w in this lamp. It makes it a little warmer and maybe more effective. That part I am not sure about but a really nice glow.
I have allergies and I am asthmatic and I do notice a difference in my breathing. The air is much `lighter' to breath!

Note that I also purchased a 50# light and I think it is to die for. It is an absolute show stopper. Both lights get a lot of comments. People love how they look, which was not why I bought it but hey that is pretty neat.
I have no complaints on quality, price, customer service, the stunning looks or health benefits it says it does.

Opened poorly packaged product and had tiny glass lightbulb fragments falling out everywhere. The wooden base was all scratched and scuffed from loose salt left to grind into it during shipment. Tried to clean it up, and put a new light bulb in it and use it anyway but there seemed to be a short in the cord somewhere as it stopped working after 5 min. of being turned on. Would not feel compfortable leaving this unit on w/my back turned for more than a minute. Completely dissatisfied.

This thing is huge! I wasn't expecting the lamp to be so big. I bought it for my mom as a gift and she likes it, too. My one complaint is how the power cord is set up. It uses these two metal pieces to hold the light bulb inside of it. It's fine, but it seems like it could be a little more... put together. Over all, though, no complaints! Even if you don't believe in the health fad that goes along with these lamps, they're still pretty lit or unlit and they're a good conversation piece!

Good value, good product. The jury is still out about all the supposed health benefits. Makes a good night light. The price was right.

I bought them on the advise of an alternate medicine person for sinus problems. I don't really think they had any impact.
