I never thought I would pay $35 for a CD but, based on the preview, I went ahead and ordered this and I am very glad I did. I am hesitant to review music because I am in no sense a musician. However this album is MAGIC! The various tunes heard only in snippets in preview are profoundly more impressive in extension. The mix of extraordinarily amplified guitar and organ works very well and in some pieces could have been scored for soprano and organ. The works themselves are a mixture of Norwegian folksongs, medieval tune settings, 19th century compositions by Sinding, Rung, and Lindeman, original compositions by Kleive and Reiersrud, and something surprising from Louisiana! The range of voices can take the organ from symphonic complexity to calliope like music and the guitar lines spread from an ECM like sound to the best progressive rock band you ever heard. This may sound all like a terrible mélange but it truly works, at least for me. One thing that cannot be in doubt listening to this is the commitment of these two musicians. Much of this music has religious titles or content and it seems to be played by two people who believe there is a life of the spirit - something real beyond the material world - that is being accessed here.

One point to add is that the full dynamic and frequency range of the instruments is being exploited here and listening in an environment with high background noise and indifferent musical reproduction will limit how much of the music you will actually hear. These works benefit from being played with the best equipment available to you.

I heard the track, Fagert er landet, on a Speaking of Faith podcast. This music seems to be playfully sacred.
