I'm still only a beginner in the learning of Hindi, but I bought this in preparartion for the time when I'm ready to move on from Snell's "Teach Yourself" and Bhatia's "Colloquial Hindi". I am very impressed with what I've seen of uit so far, and I am really looking forward to getting stuck into it. It really makes me want to move from beginner to intermediate, and that is a high ccompliment.

Wish this could be 3.5 stars and here is why....,
This review is from: Hindi Structures: Intermediate Level, with Drills, Exercises, and Key (Michigan Papers on South and Southeast Asia) (Paperback)
This Intermediate level Hindi Structures book is not bad overall. There is a wealth of new vocabulary in here that is referenced and cross-referenced so you can see word usage frequency, where the word originates from, the word used in a variety of grammatical contexts so you can see its versatility etc. The grammar points are definitely more advanced and fined-tuned points of grammar, however many of them are grammar points you would find in a beginner's Hindi grammar. I do realize he reviews most of these points before moving into more depth, however I do feel as though the layout itself is a bit hectic. He says himself that he took all of this book from a variety of random handouts and papers and tried to make a book out of it. He did a relatively good job, but there is not a real logical order to it per se. If you were not well versed in grammar and technical terms of grammar, such as myself, you would be lost I think. He uses terms to refer to Hindi grammatical structures that I have never seen ANY other Hindi grammar book use (and I am quite certain I own nearly all of the ones out there worthwhile). HOWEVER that all being said, this book is still worth getting if you have thoroughly grasped the concepts of basic grammar in Hindi and are ready for more topics to improve your Hindi. One other bonus is the ANSWER KEY that he includes. Not EVERY exercise is answered but many are. For the first time, one can actually check his work to make sure he understands properly rather than just assuming one has gotten something correct like one normally must do with other Hindi grammar books on the market.

Although a bit oldfashioned a very good exercise book for those who have learned the basics of the hindi language in an intermediate level
