5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent collection, December 30, 2007

This review is from: The Hindu World (Paperback)
This is a fantastic collection of essays by a brilliant group of scholars. Each of the essays is written by an expert in the subject area and each strikes an agreeable balance between detail, cutting edge scholarship and approachability. Admittedly, I liked some essays more than others but they are all well informed and a great place to start. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Book Every Hindu Priest coming to US on H1 Visa should be tested with?, October 28, 2009
This review is from: The Hindu World (Paperback)
Most of the Hindu scholars or priest's coming to US are reasonably conversant in rituals but none of them know much about philosophical view of Hinduism. If you test them with this book you can improve the quality of philosophy coming to US vs mexican illegal (these guys come with valid visa and go back, so no relationship to real illegal immigration but to the quality of garbage which can walk in) immigrants style they come in like walking through a revolving door.

I cannot use the powerful word which goes with WTH Hindus are talking about. I will throw one sentence just imagine that bunch of Hindu renegades (they were not Hindus because in evolutionary realm of philosophy the demarcation of features was not like Darwin's monkeys, e.g. NeoPaganism) around 5000 or what ever the right time is came to middle east and created some of the old religions and ultimately Judaism (Only possible if you are a invader and want to do, which is contradicted by Islamic bent of Tamur). This book makes you understand Hinduism in more broad day light with point of view of an average educated person (MBA from average institute) at one mile bird's eye view.

I am extremely well read and found humbled after reading this book that someone is giving serious thought in addition to those known to me. A very good book and has tons of information related to several aspects of learning with huge reference list at the back of some precious gems. It will not lead you to any Enlightenment or Nirvana but will give you a peek into what Mahatama Budh went through or other Bhakati period reformers. When you try seriously understanding greed and then the purpose of all the heck happened in world, then you come and read books like this from where you start looking a bigger picture. Don't read it if you want to be CEO like most of them we have today or Colombian drug lord because it will ruin your career and may get you killed in some ghetto fight.
