It seems the vast majority of Alternate Histories are written by Americans or Europeans, so its no surprise when the majority of departure points are based on North American or European History. Hindustaan is a fine example of a departure from this trend. The world created in this novel is complex, vivid and exiting and in some ways reminded me of Stirling's The Peshawar Lancers.

The story itself is an entertaining adventure that has many unexpected turns in it and leads to a very satisfying conclusion. The story itself has an economy of sub-plots that makes for a faster; however, more historical and character back stories could have made this a far richer novel. I enjoyed reading it but I want more.

This is my first book written by Mainak Dhar but I've already purchased my second based solely on this one.

Good easy, yet interesting read in the mold of Wilbur Smith. Found the book enjoyable and not too far fetched.

Slow but good story. Did no necessarily grab my attention the first or second time I read it. I could not finish it either time.

Anyone like History of India would love this fictional work. I hope there would be next version of some historical fiction work.

Loved the book - am looking forward to re reading it soon but am held up by the fact that I'm reading the rest of his books!

Mainak keeps u gripped with his unusual blend of a modern writing style, in-depth research and a break through concept that Surprised me with the simplicity of the story. A refreshingly novel idea, topic and writing style!

Waiting for the next book eagerly!

This is an alternate history fiction and pieces together all important historic characters of that time. This book is no literary piece, the writing is quite amateurish. But what I liked about the book is the fast pace and the gripping story line. Every Indian must have imagined what India would have been if we did not loose the Battle of Pallasey. The author has built his story on this figment of imagination, of a grandeur Mughal empire built and almost destroyed. His story has uncanny similarity with many of the incidents that happened in modern India particularly Hindu - Muslim communal riots. Overall while reading this book, if you can overlook the writing skills, am sure you will enjoy this.
