The present edition of the book is a little below the international standards. Which frequently happens to the books edited in India. The work can be said a "classic" or at least the main document for the study of "hindutva" (the hindu nationalist ideology). Savarkar gives a name to such an ideology and a sort of "manifesto". As regards the contents, everything depends on your point of view.

Talks about the historical and political life of all people in India, and why the are one integral society having common bonds inspite of speaking different languages, coming from different regions.
Why Hindus are culturally one, even if one is from Punjab and other one is from south India.

Must read for every Hindu, to understand what Hindu as a word means and what it means.

According to Savarkar, Hindutva is meant to denote the Hindu characteristic, or Hinduness.

Savarkar similarly believed that the Indian subcontinent (which includes the area south of the Himalaya and the Hindu Kush or Akhand Bharat (undivided India) is the homeland of the Hindus. He considered "Hindus" as those who consider India (Bharat) to be their motherland (matrubhumi), fatherland (pitrubhumi,) as well as their holy land (punyabhumi,), hence describing it purely in cultural terms.
