Light In The Dark Night,
This review is from: The Hinge of Your History: The Phases of Faith (Paperback)
I have loved this book since I first saw it in manuscript form. But two years ago, I read it again (and again and again) as I went through the most challenging Phase 2 period of contradiction in my life. When I could not sleep I would get up and read the Bible and this book about the phases of faith. I underlined something (often more than one thing) on every page. I wrote my own thoughts and prayers as this wonderful book helped pointed me to the God of Abraham and Sarah and to the promises of Scripture.
The example of Sarah, who lived through 25 years of contradiction to the promises of God, helped me to face my challenges one day at a time. It helped me to hang on to the hope of a Phase 3 fulfillment. Because it blessed me so much, I taught it to an adult Bible class and it had as much impact on my students as anything I have done in the last 40 years. I recommend this book to everyone who wants to walk the path of faithful discipleship, regardless of the circumstances you are facing.

A Must Read for Christians,
By noel green (MO) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Hinge of Your History: The Phases of Faith (Paperback)
If you're wanting spiritual milk this book isn't it. In fact, don't buy this book if you'd rather not think. If you like things to be easy, colorful reads full of alliteration and hyperbole then don't buy this book.
If, however, you're ready to take your spiritual walk to another level; if you're ready to examine your mind from a godly perspective and willing to let yourself be shaped from the way you see to the way you speak; if you're ready to ask the tough questions -- like "why do the promises of God seem to not relate to me?" -- then this book is for you. Be prepared to read and re-read chapters. The substance is wholly and irrefutably biblical and will change your life through the power of God and His word which it helps reveal. It will force open your eyes to see the way God works and has worked throughout history. His promises, those apparent contradictions, and then the glorious resolutions. The steps that build true, biblical, reality changing, connected faith.

A Must Read!,
This review is from: The Hinge of Your History: The Phases of Faith (Paperback)
Dr. Scott has eloquently and precisely laid out the phases of faith. Before this book, I had no notion that there even were phases of faith, and now I feel as though I have examined them fully and understand them completely. In the course of my 20 year walk with Christ there have maybe been three books that have set me on course and this is one of those books. Read it, re-read it and then read it again. "The Hinge of Your History" is fantastic for personal study and growth, but is also presented in such a way that group study would be a very easy option.

Excellent study for anyone ready to grow,
This review is from: The Hinge of Your History: The Phases of Faith (Paperback)
I'm an avid reader of books that challenge me to think about my life.
This is one of those books. The author captures your attention with her biblical study and knowledge and invites you to a focused look at two characters in the Bible who had their faith challenged. As an author myself, I'm thrilled to recommend this book, as it has encouraged my walk in this phase of my life.I Will Speak Your Name

A Manual for the Faith Walk,
By Sharon K. Souza (Acampo, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Hinge of Your History: The Phases of Faith (Paperback)
Latayne Scott's teaching on the phases of faith is a must-read for every believer, no matter where you are in your Christian walk. This book will help you find the answer to the question, "Where is the fulfillment of God's promises in my life?" This is not a book you will read one time and put on a bookshelf or pass on to someone else, but it will become a manual that you refer to again and again in your life as a Christian. As shown through the life of Sarah, wife of Abraham, you'll learn the phases of faith: promise, contradiction, and resolution, and how God works in our lives in each phase. Latayne writes, [this book] "is not for the faint of heart. But it is for the faint of faith; for those whose desire to trust God is the size of the smallest of seeds; for anyone brave enough to plant it in the soil of their own lives." I encourage you to do just that. I wish I'd had this teaching 32 years ago when I first turned my life over to Christ.

Life Changing Book,

This review is from: The Hinge of Your History: The Phases of Faith (Paperback)
What does it feel like when everything in your life is in direct opposition to the biblical promises of God? What does it feel like to watch the most faithful lose battles with health?
What does it look like to see the Savior of the world in the grave? It looks like God has left the building, so to speak. It feels like God has forgotten. But Hinge of Your History pulls the Christian and non-Christian alike into the story of Abraham and Sarah to see that God has not left or forgotten; He has, in fact, chosen to allow these 'contradictions' of His promises to appear for our strengthening. He made the promise, and He is faithful to resolve it. This book changed my outlook on the trials of life as I now can recognize and re-represent the contradictions of my life with deliberate, active responses that look towards God who has become my Faithful Rewarder, just as He became to Sarah. I look to the Lord, not my situation, for the strength I need to endure the contradictions. Be blessed by reading this book and recognizing the journey the faithful are often called to take. Maybe you're a lot like me: I just need to know what to do (or, what not to do, as the case may be) when times are hard. |
