A Desperate Young Woman . . .

It is on the worst day of her life that Lily meets the imperious duke. Helpless and unable to resist, she has no choice but to trust that this dangerously handsome man will protect her and newborn son. Editorial Reviews

From the Author

I've had a couple of readers come back to me with shock that this was a full length novel instead of a novella because of the price.  I consider this book my gift to my readers and also an easy (and low-cost) way to give my books a try if you've never read one before.  This was a true "book of the heart" for me.  I had a wonderful time writing it and will always love Lily and Arthur.  I hope to always keep this one at a special bonus price.
ENJOY!

About the Author

Most days Lavinia Kent loves her life and knows that she has found her own happily-ever-after with her husband and three children But on those other days (you know which ones!), she is very glad for the wonderful romances, sensuous gowns, and tall, sexy men that fill her mind - and then her computer.
Lavinia lives in Washington, DC, with her family and an ever-changing menagerie of pets. She attended Wellesley College as an undergraduate and holds an MBA from Georgetown University.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hint of Desire~ December 26, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was so excited to see that Lavinia Kent had a new book out and I had to grab it and I'm sure glad I did! This was a lovely story of a young woman, Lily is only eighteen but she seems much older due to horrible first marriage, finding it within herself to truly love and trust in another man. The abuse she suffered from her first husband makes this very hard and Arthur is cold and haughty who knows his duty and he feels it is his job to protect Lily and her newborn son and once he makes up his mind to do something, it is done. But even as his feelings grow for Lily (and he shows more of his softer side), her tentative nature proves to be troublesome and as she reveals more of her past, he struggles with how to show her his true desires without scarring her more. Also thrown into the mix is a serious of accidents that soon prove to be attempts on her life and Arthur must find a way to protect her, as he will not lose her now. This was a very moving tale of love and forgiveness, heartbreak and hope. Watching Lily and Arthur fall in love was a slow ride that could have moved a bit faster if they just would have talked with each other openly but based on Lily's past, I felt it worked for this story. I admired Arthur and his devotion to this slip of a lady that stumbled into his life and his acceptance of her son as his own. Lily had so much to overcome and I thought it was handled well. When she finally told Arthur the whole truth, it was the right time. A well written (though it has some missing punctuation at times, not that it deterred for the story for me) lovely, heartbreaking romance that will make you smile, laugh and tear up. Looks to be the start of a grand new series! 4 stars

4.0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable read January 15, 2013
By Sar_C
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I found 'Hint of Desire' to be an enjoyable read that dealt with themes not often seen in Historical Romance novels. It was a refreshing change of pace to see trust building between the protagonists gradually and with no 'huge misunderstandings' getting in the way as they so often do in this genre. While not the fault of the author however, the Kindle edition was littered with spelling and grammatical errors that detracted from my reading experience. Overall however, I would recommend this novel and look forward to reading more by the author.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wow January 14, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The characters in this book have been through so much heart breaking moments. It was especially pleased to see how Elizabeth was able to overcome the brutality she endured from her first marriage. Such courage can only be rewarded by having a happy ending.
Great book, read it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fresh approach to regency romance January 24, 2013
By North
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The story starts with Lily, hugely pregnant, running to escape the site of her husband's death. She is found, already in labor, by the duke of Westlake. Arthur Westlake, who about thirty seconds ago was plagued with ennui, is immediately embroiled into affairs that will change his life.

First, he has to help Lily give birth, then find out who she is, and what to do with this delightful young lady.

Meanwhile, Lily will do anything to protect her newborn son Simon, up to and including, keeping secrets, lying, and marrying in haste.

It's a great read. Nice, believable, well thought-off characters. A plot that is both historically accurate (for the limited choices Lily has) and rather modern. Good description of the characters feelings : not overboard, not too sweet, not too harsh, just right.

And of course, it all ends well.

Please note that they are some (not too graphic) sex scenes and description of violence against the Heroine.

2.0 out of 5 stars A Hint of Romance February 9, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I normally would have enjoyed such a story where the hero and heroine have a history together. A couple of things stopped me from enjoying this story. I found the action slow moving and we were treated to the characters' thoughts than actual dialogue. Where there was dialogue, it was oftentimes cryptic. No wonder there was so much misunderstanding because the characters insisted on being ambiguous or stop short from having any meaningful discourse. I found the love scenes frustrating. I wished that Lily had told Arthur about her fears, then maybe we would see some of the feelings develop. Why did Arthur stay away so much? How or why did his letters go missing? It would've been nice if his letters did get through to Lily. That would've been so much more romantic. Oh and the idea that Arthur had some feelings for Lily's mother, albeit some sort of "puppy love", didn't sit quite well with me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read January 12, 2013

This was a good book. There was spousal abuse, which is rarely seen in books. The hero in the story is a good one because he too was abused as a child.

3.0 out of 5 stars good story...but January 10, 2014
By Fiona
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Would you ever name a horse as Jesus? Why not be considerate to other religions and not use Ganesha? It made me cringe to read "he kicked Ganesh"...have you come across any Indian who writes about an animal named Mary or Jesus? Of course you can berate me of being overly sensitive ...wonder how your editor did not point this out? Do other faiths mean so little to you westerners?

2.0 out of 5 stars Could have been March 7, 2013
By makdove

At first I liked the story and it could have been really good. But I think what I found so annoying was the sex scenes. I really felt that the story could have been so much better if the author had worked more on the story instead of on the marital difficulties caused by Lily's past traumas. I loved the idea of the past friendship Lily and Arthur had shared when Lily was a sweet little girl. I got tired of the whole thing when she associated brandy with her frigidity issues. It made the story boring and annoying. It was a waste of the pages I quickly turned because I wanted a story with meat not soft core porn with elements of peeping tom junk. This story had so much wasted potential.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great story, pity about the editing
I really enjoyed this series, great historical romance. A good edit would have greatly improved them. Oath wise they had everything else, handsome dukes and damsels in distress.

More About the Author

Lavinia Kent never knew that most people don't make up stories in their heads to pass the time. She still has a hard time understanding how those who don't survive the doctor's waiting room or a grocery store line without another world to escape into.

As the mother of three, Lavinia finds "leisure time" to be ever-elusive, but when she is not reading romance novels, she watches far too much HBO and reality television. It must also be noted that she has an encyclopedic knowledge of all things Buffy and the new Doctor Who.

About ONCE AND FOREVER

ONCE AND FOREVER is an anthology of original work put together by my critique group. We all write with different voices and styles in completely different genres, but we share a deep belief in the "forever" romance and wanted to give our readers a chance to try something new.

It's our way of offering a little sampling and flavor.

I hope it's as much fun to read as it was to write.
