When we began to think about producing a new video for children, we had two goals in mind; one was to inform children about endangered animals in the world and the other was to do something that helped children learn and enjoy exercise. The idea for "Hip Hop Animal Rock Workout" made both of these goals possible. The video is hosted by Didi The Dodo Bird, a great animated character (dodo birds are extinct) who takes our live cast (and your kids) into the magical rain forest where they learn how to do various exercises based on the movements of many of our endangered animals - they are really lovable and the kids have a great time learning the animal tunes and movements. One of our favorites is the Elephant Glide. A very interesting thing about producing this video was that at the end of the production, most of our crew (including ourselves) lost weight working out with the kids! We are most proud of the quality of "Hip Hop Animal Rock" and have been rewarded with recognition by our own industry as well as from the fitness and television industries. Our crew was made up of many of the top names in television and film. We also consulted with and relied on experts from the fitness industry to ensure that 'Hip Hop Animal Rock" was not only safe for kids, but would also meet the requirements of a well-rounded fitness program. We know your children (and you) will enjoy it as much as we do. It's a great program for children 5 and up.

Susan Zwerman, co-producer of "Hip Hop Animal Rock is also a member of the Directors Guild of America with over 50 major films, 100 television commercials, and 30 theatrical Broadway and Off-Broadway plays to her credit. She has also won a Grammy Award for 'Best Concept Music Video' for Weird Al Yankovic's "I'm Fat," which was a parody of Michael Jackson's video "I'm Bad." Sonny Flink, co-producer, writer and co-creator of "Hip Hop Animal Rock Workout" is a successful screenwriter, educator, and international motivational speaker.

The sound quality of the videotape is pretty poor. The Dodo bird "host" is unintelligible. Contrary to the online reviews, the workout itself is too complex for most kids. Some of the moves are fun and easy, like the "Elephant" ear flapping, but neither my seven year old nephew nor I could handle the "Kangaroo" which looks like Elaine dancing on Seinfeld. We just walked through that part. I'm pretty experienced at aerobics tapes, and I thought most of the moves were intermediate to advanced level. At the beginning they keep changing from move to move way too quickly. OTOH, they do have a responsible warm up and cool down. I may return the video, but I'll wait a few days and ask my nephew again whether he likes it enough to keep it.

I am an elementary physical education teacher with a dance background. I have taught adult aerobic classes and have choreographed aerobic dances for children. This video is too fast for children. It is hard for an adult. I saw the first dance and could not believe that this was for children 5 and up!

I would not recommend this video and wonder why it got so high reviews from other people. The pace is way too fast and they change positions very often. It was hard for me to keep up with all of the different positions as an adult. I couldn't imagine how kids could. The kids on the video must have practiced for at least a year so they could all be in sync. I would recommend "Kick to Get Fit Jr. - For Kids" by Rich Grogan if you are wanting a work out that kids can actually keep up with and is fun.
