5.0 out of 5 stars Yes You Can!!! teach hip hop with this "box", March 18, 2009
This review is from: Hip Hop: In a Box (Hardcover)
I am a former classical ballet professional dancer. Never thought I could teach hip hop to beginners/elementary school students. I am teaching a class that I title Hip Hop & Tap dance for boys only and the students love it. The students are always looking forward to this class. Thank you
Ms Gomez for all your hard work to make it easy for us teachers. Bravo!!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for the Younger Kids, December 7, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Hip Hop: In a Box (Hardcover)
I am a ballet teacher, not a hip hop teacher, but occaisionally I find myself having to teach a hip hop class. I wouldn't use this to prepare fo a hip hop class over the age of 12. For that I would suggest turning on MTV and watching a few music videos, hitting the club and seeing what the scene is these days, or attending a workshop in LA. But for Preschool and Elementary students, where they aren't really coordinated enough for true hip hop, the movement ideas are great. The music CD, which is just generic beats without lyrics is also great because it's timeless and really works with all ages, but if possible add a few of the more popular mainstream songs to your class as well. You'll look like a fool working throught the DVD, but it's actually a pretty good workout.

Worth the price for sure.

3.0 out of 5 stars hip hop in a box, very elementary., January 5, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Hip Hop: In a Box (Hardcover)
This is so elementary that a beginner should have no problem picking out steps and creating their own routines or following the routines on the DVD. this video is particularly slow and the flash cards help jog your memory. I have used these cards in a studio dance class as a creative choreography experience. I place a group of cards in a pile on the floor and let each student choose 1- 4 cards depending on time and ages of children. The students teach their class mates the step and I put the movements together into their own personal routine. this would be a fun party activity and great for elementary academic classrooms as well as studio dance instruction. children ages 6 to adults will enjoy this boxed set. dancers with hip hop experience may find this set too slow and elementary especially if students are 12 or older. For experienced dancers the best use may be as a choreographic exercise
