The Foundation!!!,

This review is from: Hip Hop Forever 2 (Audio CD)
If you are new to hip hop music or just wanting a great hip hop compilation, this LP is highly recommended. These are essential artists/songs to check out. Especially, when ya have one of the illest DJ's mixin' & chopin' it up.

Jazzy Jeff has long been my favorite DJ. I've been following his work since '86 and it does my heart good to hear cats like Jeff still tearing it up. The tracks all range from the early to mid 90's and includes various bangers and some of them are pretty obscure like the "Can't Stop The Prophet" Pete Rock remix or O.C's classic "Times Up". I really don't have to go into much detail. Just look at the track listing, it speaks for itself. You already know how Jeff flawlessly blends tracks, so the rest is a no brainer.
The only flaw (if you can call it that) I could find on the album was the fact that some of the songs were censored (like "Made U Look"). It was a small distraction, but a distraction nevertheless. Hip Hop Forever Vol. II is more than worth owning. If you haven't heard it by now, quit cheating yourself and buy it. Jeff has been my favorite since day 1 and he has yet to let me down. Standout Tracks: Electric Relaxation, How Many Emcees (My Favorite), Times Up, Buck 'Em Down (Beatminerz Remix), Braggin' Writes, Made U Look, Square One, Can't Stop The Prophet (Pete Rock Remix), Live At The BBQ, and Words I Manifest

Mixed CD vs. Limited Edition,

Ok, the original mixed cd version of this was great. Just great classic tracks from (or at least staying true to) the golden era of Hip-Hop. After listening to this version and herd that the Limited offered an Unmixed Cd as well, I was excited to have many of these great tracks in full form as well. Unfortunatly, somehow all of the songs on the mixed cd DO NOT appear at all on the unmixed disc. Why???? I have no clue. Either Jeff wanted to include more tracks or what, i have no idea. Surprisingly enough it takes away more than it does help. It's especially dissapointing to see Jeru's Can't Stop the Prophet Remix (which is hard to find) replaced with the original version that everyone can get on his album. Other tracks you might be dissapointed not to find in full form are:I.N.I. - Square One Phife Dawg - Flawless Wildchild feat. Vinia Mojica - Party U J-Live - Braggin' Writes The Pharcyde - Drop I don't wanna take anything away from the Original Mixed version of this cd, which is outstanding, but buyers should be weary of some surprises.

You won't every get anything quite as good as seeing DJ Jazzy Jeff and Mad Skilz rock the party live on CD, but if that's what you have to settle for get this disk.
Jazzy Jeff has the cuts, the beats, and the skratches. This set rocks--just look at the playlist. If this album doesn't roxxor your soxxor, nothing will.

The only flaws I could find on the album was the fact that some of the songs were censored (like "Made U Look"). Also, some of the songs on the mixed version aren't available on the second disc. I have the missing songs on wax and CD, but these are pretty obscure songs and the average head will be very disappointed that they aren't here with the other songs. Hip Hop Forever Vol. II is more than worth owning. If you haven't heard it by now, quit cheating yourself and buy it. Jeff has been my favorite since day 1 and he has yet to let me down.
