Decent Starter Set for the Hip Hop Novice--,
By Hype Currie "scholar of pop culture" (Detroit, Michigan United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hip Hop: Gold (Audio CD)
If someone is interested in a convenient 2-disc "mixtape" to keep a party going, they can't go wrong with this collection. It is essentially a condensed version of the four-disc "HIP HOP BOX" that Hip-O/Universal released some time ago, which was a chronicling of key hip-hop hits from the humble beginnings of Rapper's Delight (1979) to the vast mainstream success of the early 2000's. Of particular interest are those which fall within Universal's vast back catalog, including such merged and/or defunct labels as MCA, Def Jam, Uptown, Island, Polydor, and more.
Casual or new hip-hop fans will find this compilation satisfactory-- dedicated listeners who are fans of specific artists are best advised to seek out their greatest hits/best of sets (if available).

This is what I expected. Tracks of old school hip hop music from some of the best during their time, laying down "the rap" with a nice music bed from the back. The quality of this CD is very good. I look forward to future purchases from this dealer.

Where's BDP?,

This is a decent collection for a party or get together especially if you were around during the early days of hip-hop. But no Boogie Down Productions ex: Love's Gonna Get Cha', or the anti-violence anthem Self-Destruction. Glad to see Ice-T and Eric B. & Rakim on this collection.
