I teach 4th grade at an inner city school. My students were having such a hard time memorizing their multiplication tables. I did some research and found the Smart Shorties music on itunes.
These brilliant people took Popular songs on the radio, changed the lyrics so it's all about multiplication. Crank them 3s is to the tune of Solja Boy, the most famous song of 2008. My class is going crazy over these songs. They know ALL the tunes, and are frantically trying to learn all the raps and multiplication tables. It's so much fun. They look forward to it every day! I bought the Hip Hop Multiplication for my son's 3rd grade teacher and she LOVES it! She has shared with the other 3rd grade teachers at her school and used it as an alternate to flash cards (which I hate). :-D She said that the children in my son's class had been listening to the CDs and "their test scores show it!" Yay!
