5.0 out of 5 stars "Jazz interwoven within Hip Hop ~ it works Bop City", May 25, 2005
This review is from: Hip Strut (Audio CD)
Much like Rock 'N' Roll, Hip Hop is not going away and is getting stronger every day...remember when you thought this was just a fad "HIP STRUT", performed by Bop City and recorded April 1996 at Sear Sound with Alec Head at the helm...featuring Stic. Man, Dwayne "Bonecrusher" Burno, Billy "Sticks" Kilson, David Weiss, Jon Dryden, Josh Roseman, James "Genius" Genus, Arturo O'Farril, David McMurray, David Fiuczynski, Lord Jamar...sends a message to all the fans that this is here and now, and is going to stick around for a long time...fills in the gaps for many fans of curiosity...this tasty tidbit of genre is a history lesson featuring ten selections sure to satisfy!

Entire album is a collectors gold mine, with selected pioneers of Jazz and Hip Hop stepping up and spreading the gems through the airwaves of the streets...most diehard fans will want more of the same, but for many of us, this is as good as it gets ~ remember, this could have been a two or three disc collection...dedicated to Ahmad Jamal, Jackie McLean and McEiht in alphabetical order we have:
AHMAD'S BLUES
ANOTHER KIND OF SOUL (INTERLUDE)
BOPCITYCY
DUID DEED
FUNK IN DEEP FREEZE
HIP STRUT
NEW RHUMBA
NO PROBLEM (INTRO)
THE SQUIRREL (LOUNGE MIX)
THE SQUIRREL (PARTY MIX)

Each cue fits the groove perfectly with the guiding hands of Reynold da Silva and Yusuf Gandhi (executive producers), Milan Simich (producer/arranger/creator) Silva Screen Records and Hip Bop Essence to journey down memory lane with America's original music JAZZ and HIP HOP...another great album featuring your favorite label and the artists therein...just the way we like 'em!

Total Time: 45:00 on 10 Tracks ~ Hip Bop Essence 8013 ~ (10/15/1996)

Extraordinarily good modern be-bop. The rapping isn't that good, but the playing is superb..not to be missed by anyone who wants to here be-bop that doesn't sound like re-gurgitated old stuff. A must have!
