Mixed Messages,

The author could not make up her mind if the book was a true mystery or if it was a commentary on life in New Orleans. Several chapters did not deal at all with who killed 'The Hippie in the Wall' nor did it advance the plot of the book. If the author had dealt with the life and times of New Orleans in either the 1970s or the early 1990s, the book would have been a good commentary. It appeared that the mystery was thrown in as an afterthought.
