Hipsway may not be the Beatles: not even close.They may not
even have a decent follow-up LP.They may not be the best
Scottish musicians ever. But as BOURGEOIS TAGG put it:
I Don't Mind At All. This album is what British Pop is
all about: Simple & beautiful pop songs. Ask The Lord
became easily a club classic, Forbidden is one of the best
ballads ever written by Scottish group and my all time
favourite song, with a solo by Pim that shakes my bones
each and every time, is Long White Car.

I remember the first time I heard this record (at the time when CD was just a designers initials) in the mid-80's. I was really in to all types of new wave and electronic sounding stuff; and along comes this band who used gorgeous rhythms and even some brass instruments to really make you swing. I was at a friends house when he played this for me, and I've been a fan ever since. A lot of the stuff I listened to then brings back a smile, but I wouldn't go out of my way to hear it again soon after. Hipsway is different. I don't think I can ever get bored of listening to this..."Tinder" reminds me of the girl I never could have, "The Honeythief" reminds me of a very good party; "The Broken Years" reminds me of, well, that long drive on a small country road...

Long white car is one of the best 80's pop singles I have ever heard. If your like OMD, New Order,Thompson Twins etc. You are in for an aural treat with Hipsway.

Without a bad track on the album hipsway is an excellant trip back to mid-eighties electronic pop/rock ,with its crisp, clear production songs like 'the honeythief','the broken years' and my personal favourite 'forbidden' amazingly has passed the test of time. bass player johnny mcelone who already had a taste of fame with his former band ALTERED IMAGES would go on to have phenomenal success throughout the u.k and europe with his new band TEXAS.

I won't make this a lengthy review as I think there are some good & informative reviews on this band all ready ( see Eric Andrews review for example ) Let me just state that many times good musicians get overlooked in this world and these guys were certainly the case.

It is true that these guys would likely be grouped in with 80's synth rock, the music though is actually much more rock driven with obvious synth in it, giving it a full sound. I never tire of this album, I suppose I would if I played it all the time. However I have so much music in my collection I only get around to hearing a HIPSWAY song when they are loaded on my IPOD and it shuffles into one of their songs and then I remember that there is not one dud song on this album. Buy a cheap used version off of Amazon and see what I mean. I think I and the others who have reviewed it are right on this one.

By the way, I gave it four stars because it is great, but I reserve 5 star ratings for albums that are truly classic. So, not a classic but still very much worth the listen

senhores, me deslculpem, mas não sei escrever em inglês. Compreendo alguma coisa na leitura, e estive pesquisando sobre Hipsway, pois simplesmente amo. Não consegui entender ainda como comprá-lo, por isso peço mais informações para adquirir este CD MARAVILHOSO.
