This Book Will Save Your Sanity!!,
By Jen Lancaster "Author of BITTER IS THE NEW BLACK" (Chicago, IL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hire Me Dumbass! (Paperback)
I'd heard the buzz about Hire Me Dumbass, so I decided to check it out for myself. I bought it and immediately read it from cover to cover as soon as I received it. When I started to read, I wondered if I'd get bored halfway through, as by then the "joke" of these crazy letters would be old. But Joe kept coming up with different scenarios, so the book is fresh, funny, and fabulous from cover to cover! (I laughed so hard that my husband had to close his office door to concentrate while I read.) I'm not sure which letters are my favorite, but there's a part where he "confuses" letters to Kia and Ikea that caused me to hyperventilate. Beyond just being clever, I think the book particularly resonated with me because, I, too am unemployed and have tried practically everything to get hired since my layoff in 2001. It has been so frustrating! But reading what Joe did to keep himself sane not only amused me, but also inspires me! So now every time I have another lousy interview, or get dinged for the perfect job, I only have to read Joe's book to get a smile on my face! Buy this book and you will smile, too! Thanks, Joe... you rock!!

Waste of money.....,
By Karma (New York, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hire Me Dumbass! (Paperback)
I bought this book thinking that it would be good "toilet lit", something for the guests to read. I really didnt like it, but since I spent the money I still put it in the guest bath. Turns out most of our guests thought it was dry and quite boring. We tend to enjoy the "letter sytle" books....but this one was pretty much the worst. I would tend to recommend either Consumer Joe (our current favorite) or Lazlo Letters. I hope this helps.

Blew me away!,

This review is from: Hire Me Dumbass! (Paperback)
I have never been more skeptical over the hype of a book more than this one. Well for once the hype lived up to my expectations. I loved this book, not just for its humor and originality, but for it's hidden social commentary. The author is smart enough to realize the serious statement that this book makes, though he cleverly disguises it all with humor. Crazy or genius, he puts it all out on a limb and walks away. Hiring practices get a kick in the rear and they don't even know it. Wonderful.

Quick and Funny!,

This review is from: Hire Me Dumbass! (Paperback)
From the title to the last letter this book was a fun and fast read. A real original humor book that gets funnier every time you read it. The fact that this was never meant to be a book in the first place makes the whole concept more hillarious. Great job to the author for its brilliant execution.

Entertaining from cover to cover!,

This book really set me off laughing. A great example of making lemonaide from lemons. My favorite letters are the ones where he ads his personal stories. I especially loved the letter to MTV. Can't wait to read the follow up to this this book.

My face hurt I laughed so much!,
By
This review is from: Hire Me Dumbass! (Paperback)
I read it the first time by myself and I found myself laughing so hard that people on the plane were staring! The second time I read it out loud in front of friends after a dinner party and they were falling off the couch! I know a number of people who have been let go recently and I have recommended this book to them to pick up their spirits. This is a perfect book for the times. These irreverant letters are ones that everyone would like to write and a must read for all HR people.

Read this book in public!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Hire Me Dumbass! (Paperback)
I thought I could get away with just skimming through this book at a local book store. I could not. I found myself stopping too often to catch my breath from laughing. It was a bit embarassing to say the least. It was the kind of laughter that the more you try to control, the harder you laugh. Several people actually asked me what I was reading and went off to find the book themselves. That laugh was a great experience and had to have added a few years to my life. Ended up buying the book and continue to read in public.

A great example of the American sense of humor.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Hire Me Dumbass! (Paperback)
While reading this book I found myself continuously laughing out loud. I paused for a moment to think of when the last time a book made me laugh like this. The answer was never. The notion that a person would write such outrageous cover letters and actually mail them is just priceless. I have read the book cover to cover three times, and still find myself skimming through the pages and reading certain letters to friends over the phone. Many friends have ended up purchasing copies for themselves. This book is a great example of the American sense of humor and our ability to laugh at ourselves during adverse situations.

Insightful and hilarious,
By @EstherK (Los Angeles, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hire Me Dumbass! (Paperback)
Unemployed? Joe Mozian's been there, and in fact, is still there. His humor is a buoy for troubled times and a damaged economy. His audacity comes from a place deep within that we all can relate to: Joe mines the well of vengeful feelings that is the sole domain of the fired, the laid-off, or the unceremoniously dismissed. Intelligent readers will relate to his pursuit of profession, and will recognize him as one of their own, the literal Joe America in search of a job wherever he can find it. His wacky and irreverent approach to the great American job search is a hilarious tonic for this country's growing class of out-of-work professionals.
