Product Description

Haunting, possibly even evil is this fascinating plant displaying the rudiments of a bat. Large whiskered face is surrounded by luscious green leaves and given the right conditions. Makes a nice house plant, too. It is also called the "Devil's Plant".

Proper name: Tacca integrifolia. If you like to collect and grow bizarre plants then this family of plants is for you. The rare White Bat Plant produces a sinister looking flower that looks like a bat in flight. The center of the flower develops a small bat face. These plants are native to India, Malaysia and some of the islands in the Indo-Pacific region.

Proper name: Tacca integrifolia

The starter plant you will receive is growing in a 3" pot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bat Flower, February 7, 2011

I recieved my bat flower from Hirts Garden thur amazon.com. It had a heat pack in the box, but when it arrived it was obvious that it got too cold, and was wilted. I contacted them and they had me send a picture. They sent me a new plant that is doing great. What a fantastic place to order plants from. They really stand behind thier products. Cant wait for it to grow up now and see the first flower. I am very happy with them.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very nice plant, February 26, 2011

I ordered this plant and another. They arrived yesterday, and in better shape than I expected (given it's still winter time here) A little wilty from being packaged and shipped but I gave them both a drink and put them in my little indoor greenhouse for warmth and humidity. Today, they looked to be in great shape. (humidity is at 75% and temp is at 71). I'll repot the white bat plant today in a mix of 50% Orchid mix, 40% peat and 10% sand. The greenhouse I have is in front of a west window and the blinds provide for filtered light. (I also keep my Orchids in this spot over the winter and they do well there) From what I understand White Bat plants enjoy much the same environment as the Phalenopsis Orchid. So far I am very satisfied with the plants I got from Hirts. They were a little bigger than expected and seem to be doing ok so far....

Although this plant arrived in pretty good condition (three leaves, forth coming out), it needed alittle attn. to look like a healthy plant. After repotting and placing in a sunny window, it put out one more leaf then stopped doing ANYTHING. After over a month, I am still waiting to see what it will become. And not a particularly attractive house plant while I wait. I will keep tending it but would not recommend it to anyone.
