Book Description

***UPDATED 2014***

A CONCISE AND TO THE POINT BOOK; NOT VERY LONG.

Using humor, interesting stories, and an off-the-wall writing style, author Kathy Cooksey describes her own son's journey of getting an accredited bachelor's degree from home at the tender age of 16. She explains how this method works for adult students, transfers, home schoolers, or anyone. Older students sometimes finish an entire degree with this method in only one year.

Easy, fast read, packed full of practical information.
I love the way Kathy Cooksey breaks this down into very doable, encouraging steps.
I love the information about how to earn free college elective credits even before enrolling and paying a college.
She also really helps make this process seem less intimidating.
It's more than about "How to get a degree from home. " After all, I've received a fully-accredited Masters degree online. But I paid much, much more for it than by this method!

This book is especially ideal for the Christian homeschool parent looking to have their children fully educated with a degree, yet concerned about sending their children into a traditional classroom setting (though some tests are taken in 'real' traditional classrooms). Also how the homeschool parent can have their child getting child credits while 'doing high school'. Or is that 'doing high school' while getting college credits? It works either way you look at it.
It DOES have helpful information to be gained for anyone though that is looking for an accredited education, done on your time, for less money than the norm. :)

Like a previous reviewer said re: the 9.99 for this book...don't let the price turn you off.
You'll save time and $ because Kathy Cooksey and family have already done the research and lived out the reality of this book. I think you'll find the money well spent.

What have you got to lose?

I have always shied away from going to college because it seemed like too much to figure out. I love the idea of starting at home, and skipping classes all together. Especially now that I have children at home. I had heard of taking tests, not classes before, but never had anyone interested in explaining how to do this magical thing. This book is straight to the point but not dry. There is a real person and family behind it, and it is well written. O boy was it packed with info. I am glad I have a copy to reread as I go along. I was so excited reading it half way through I stopped to order books to study for tests and get started! I still find a degree to be a bit daunting, but I am no longer nervous about getting started! Thank you so much to Kathy and her family for sharing their experience, so my family and I can get college credits with out going into massive debt!

5.0 out of 5 stars Packed full of helpful info February 13, 2012

This is a quick, get to the point, "how-to" to help your child get college credit without leaving home. At first I was taken back by the price of something that can be read in one sitting, but in the end I felt it was worth it because of all the information that had been gathered on the subject was right there in one place. That is something I wouldn't have been able to do on my own. There is a lot of info packed into this book that will help even the most timid student to get motivated to do high school and college at the same time without spending double the time in studying. Thank you, Kathy, for putting all this together for the rest of us! I'll start using these ideas today!

More About the Author

Kathy Cooksey is a mom of 8 children from 3 to 21 years old.

Her husband Ronny is the pastor of a church in McMinnville, Oregon. After graduating with her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education with Math Specialization, Kathy enjoyed being an Admissions Counselor at Dallas Baptist University and then taught 1st grade to some delightful students in Texas.

When her oldest, Micah, was 3 years old and the family lived in Japan as Southern Baptist missionaries, she started her own school -- at the kitchen table. She has home-schooled all her children since then. When Kathy is not spending time with her children (and sometimes when she is!), she enjoys singing, reading, gardening, researching politics, visiting the gorgeous Oregon Coast, and protecting kids from the liberal doctrines and "Animal House" lifestyles of universities.

Because of God's grace, her son Micah finished his B.A. by the age of 16, and now has a Master's degree as well. Because he has no college debt and lives at home, he is able to save most of his salary and at the age of 20 began house shopping.
