Working in Tennessee

5.0 out of 5 stars "I Don't Want to Sober Up Tonight", December 11, 2011
This review is from: His Best (Audio CD)

If you are a fan of Merle Haggard, and don't know some of these songs or even seen this collection;you're in for a real treat--I know I was.
It's titled "His Best";but hold on,it was published way back in Haggards career, actually 1980--that's over 30 years ago.I hadn't even heard some of these songs. They were first released in,'78,'79,'80,and '81
They were produced by Jimmy Bowen,Hank Cochran,Fuzzy Owen and Haggard.
What I found most interesting is that Haggard's voice and the way he sings a ballad has changed little over the years. It has only 10 songs, all by Merle Haggard, except one. That one is "When My Blue Moon Turns To Gold Again" by Gene Sullivan-Wiley Walker. This is quite a departure for Haggard, and is very enjoyable and shows that he can really do a great job on a classic song.
If you can get hold of this collection,here's what's in store for you;

I Don't Want to Sober Up Tonight
When My Blue Moon Turns To Gold Again
Make-Up And Faded Blue Jeans
Love Me When You Can
Leonard
No One To Sing To (But The Band)
Back To The Barrooms Again
Wake Up
Roses in the Winter
And
The Running Kind

Guaranteed to please any "Hag" fan;particularly if you haven't heard all these songs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Haggard, October 13, 2011

Even though this cd only has 10 tracks , they are 10 great tracks. I bought this cd for the one song "Love Me When You Can" which is extremely hard to find on cd. I had the 45 record of it which I practically wore out so after years of hunting it on cd finally found it on this one. Would recomend this cd for any Haggard fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars This CD Rocks!!!, January 2, 2011

I love Merle Haggard. I've even seen him in concert. The problem is he has God knows how many albums, and his greatest hits cds rarely include the tracks on this cd. The whole thing is good. It's one of the only cds I can listen to the whole thing over and over.
