Unbelievable plot, February 9, 2011
This review is from: His Californian Countess (Harlequin Historical) (Mass Market Paperback)
RT rated this story with 3 stars, meaning it's a mediocre story. I had a difficult time getting into this story. Read up to page 89. The characters were both quite stilted with their speech and thoughts, making the characters a bit out of step with their time period. He's British. Okay, he might word things a little more stiffly, but not her. Not a girl from a rough mining town, even if the town was in Virginia. What wasn't believable in this story was the two making love while he was still under the influence of scarlet fever. I don't understand why writers have characters do such unbelievable things. A minor injury, well, okay. I've yet to meet anyone who gets sexually aroused when burning up with fever, or puking, or delirious from a life-threatening illness. And would a man in his condition marry a pretty face for the sake of his child back home? I know I wouldn't. With the title he has he should've had arrangements made long ago for his daughter if something terrible happened to him. Hmm...
