More About the Author

Hi. I'm Opal Carew, a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author. I write erotic romance for St. Martin's Press and Samhain Publishing, and I self-publish stories. I also write romance as Amber Carew.

So why do I like writing erotic romance? I like being able to push beyond traditional boundaries. I like dealing with a female character who is growing and evolving - questioning her sexual boundaries and pushing past them. My stories usually include menage a trois. It is great fun to write a heroine choosing between two equally appealing heroes... or more.

These aren't women who just jump into bed with anyone. They find themselves in an unusual situation - something exciting and erotic - but a situation where they have to push themselves beyond their comfort level. As a result, they grow as a person. So often fear holds us back - of what others will think of us, of what we will think about ourselves - and we don't follow our hearts. These women push past that fear.

"I was completely entranced about how the characters dealt with their past and their present relationship." ~Under the Covers

Kate is a professional business woman. She moved to a different place to start her life over. She is also looking for an investor for her company so that she can buy her partner out. She never thought that her past would come back to haunt her. She also never thought that she would still have feelings for the one man who broke her heart.

Matt is a computer tech. He started his new business and, while waiting for someone, caught a glimpse of a woman from his past. He never thought that he would see her again. And he never thought that he would still be in love with her.

The first part of the book was more about Kate trying to avoid Matt. She did not want anything to do with him. She just wanted to forget her time with him. She felt that she did not need another broken heart. Matt just wanted to know what actually happened between them. So he tried to hunt her down. Kate did her hardest to hide from him. But in the end he caught up with her. And told her he would not let her go until he found out what happened between them.

Since Matt finally got Kate to sit down with him and talk; he suggested something to help her find her new Dominant. He offered to teach her everything she needed to know to serve, and at the end of their time together they would both go their separate ways. With that agreement they both tried to keep their feelings from each other. But as the days progressed, Matt tried to stay in Dominant mode and Kate tried to stay in submissive mode, their feelings for each other surfaced once again.

SUMMER'S BOOK BLOG

His To Command by Opal Carew was originally released as six serial erotic romance novellas and is now available as one single novel. Kate is a business woman who had to leave New York City and start a new life in Connecticut, it was not something she wanted to do but she had to get away from her past, especially Matt Pearce. Matt is her ex, the one who dominated her and showed her that she had a submissive side she wasn't aware existed. She was just beginning to explore this side of herself when something happened between her and Matt and she felt she had to run away, leaving everything she knew behind. She has settled into her new life when a chance encounter brings Matt back into her life and the walls she built begin to crumble around her. She can't control herself around him and he wants to control her, will she let him?

This is the first book I have read by Opal Carew and I can honestly say I loved it and will read anything she writes from now on. I enjoyed her writing style, she does write in the third person but still allows each characters point of view to come through at certain points allowing the reader a better grasp of the characters thoughts and actions. She has an amazing way of keeping the reader intrigued from the very first scene. From the first moments of the book the reader is kept on the edge of their seat, who did she see? Was it really him, why is she so afraid? Later on in the novel the reader will be wondering, What happened at the party? What did Matt do to her? What is the secret? The entire novel had a slight air of suspense keeping the reader hooked. Matt and Kate are both great, interesting and well developed characters.

This book filled in all the Sub/Dom action that the "Fifty Shades Of Grey" series was missing! I don't like Opal's writing-style-- it's very childish at times, and she repeats character-thoughts over and over and over again until you just want them to get over it already and move on! But I bought this book for the Sub/Dom scenes, and in that aspect I wasn't disappointed!

HIS TO COMMAND was definitely an intriguing read. After reading ILLICIT by the same author, I jumped right into this book. I was very impressed at how Ms. Carew hooked me once again from the beginning. It was such a fast read which I wasn't expecting. It was a story about love, romance and dominance. I am not really into the whole BDSM and have read it before and wasn't impressed. This story however wasn't that bad. I was surprised. Overall, a quick, very well written and recommended read.

I had read a part of the first section of this book online and was intrigued with the story. Eventhough the whole dominant - powerful businessman line has been very popular and done quite a number of times, I thought that this story would be more mature and emotionally deep. But unfortunately I was wrong.
Eventhough Kate seems to be a mature woman who is smart and savvy, she is incredibly immature and insecure.
--SPOILER ALERT--
We are led to believe that Kate's reasons for running away from Matt are legitamate and just. However, the incident which has led them apart is a series of misunderstandings and miscommunication.
As for Matt, he can hardly be called a bona fide Dom. I've read many BDSM books and can safely say that a flogger and dungeon do not make a Dom. He attempts to "punish" Kate a couple of times for her mistakes but never seems to see it through. Again, as with Kate, we are led to believe or rather hope that Matt harbors a deep, dark secret that is keeping him from having a serious relationship with Kate. Yet again we are disappointed with what ends up being a flimsy excuse.
Yes, there are many sex scenes, but after a certain point it began to get weary and repetitive.
I'm sorry to say that the book left me sorely dissatisfied. I wish that the story had started with how they met and then continued from there. This was the first Opal Carew book that I read, but I want to give her another try as I have read many great reviews of her books.
