1.0 out of 5 stars This is not a Philip Pullman's trilogy!!!, July 21, 2009

After reading all the previous reviews, I was very excited to buy the Pullman's trilogy in one book for my son. What I received was a dramatization BASED ON Philip Pullman's trilogy. The cover of the book has two lines on a bottom saying: BASED ON THE NOVELS BY PHILLIP PULLMAN, ADAPTED BY NICHOLAS WRIGHT, which are missing from the image on this page.
I am really confused. Are we talking about the same book? Mine looks exactly like the one on the top of this page.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't pass this one by, January 22, 2009
This review is from: His Dark Materials (Paperback)
The trilogy of Golden Compass, Subtle Knife, and Amber Spyglass in one book is the way to go here, because once you read the first, you won't be able to resist reading the next two.

The novels are imaginative, well written, and deep adventures that will keep your interest held throughout. Some depictions of the various worlds that the child heroes go through will stay in your memory vividly for a very long time. It is a great read, with philosophical questions raised that have burdened humankind forever, and the answers he gives are both sobering and hopeful.

No reservations.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'd have thought it couldn't be done..., December 17, 2004

This particular book is an adaptation of the HDM trilogy for the stage...something I'd have bet money couldn't be done. It would be a bear (armored bear? ;} ) to stage, but I'd love to see it that way. Some things got elided, but the main points remain. A real tour-de-force.
