His Dogness and Lord Kelvin are out for their morning constitutional when His Dogness spots a heart in a ditch. The heart isn't the sort of heart that beats. It is the sort of heart that feels. And it is ever so blue. Ever so gently His Dogness picks it up in his mouth and takes it to Lord Kelvin.

"Some little girl is going to be missing this," Lord Kelvin says. "But, in the meantime, let's take it with us and see what we can do about all this blueness."

Although everyone can see a heart that beats, not everyone can see the heart that feels, but His Dogness and Lord Kelvin have a knack for finding just the right people-people who can see things that are invisible to others. So, off they go to restore the blue heart.

At the end of their adventures, there is a happy ending, although not necessarily the ending His Dogness and Lord Kelvin expected.

Kim Underwood is a columnist and feature writer for the Winston-Salem Journal. His first book, Dope on a Rope, is a collection of his columns. People told him they were especially fond of the stories starring his dog, Buster, a.k.a. His Dogness. This led to the creation of His Dogness Finds a Blue Heart.

More About the Author

Kim Underwood (1953-) is the son of a Presbyterian minister who liked to move around. Kim grew up in North Carolina and West Virginia. He dropped out of Yale to seek enlightenment and spent his 20s in San Francisco. In 1985, he returned to North Carolina where he is a columnist and reporter for the "Winston-Salem Journal." He met his wife Garnet Goldman when he asked her to illustrate "His Dogness Finds a Blue Heart." Kim and Garnet live with Sparkle Girl and Doobins and, each day, marvel at their good fortune.

I really enjoyed this book. I read it to my dogs and they loved it. Great job Kim and Garnet.
