Pretty good, but not near as good as seeing him live, April 16, 2009
This review is from: His Greatest (Audio CD)
Bruce Robison is a fantastic songwriter, and these are fantastic songs. Bruce's voice sounds great, and the recording of "Traveling Soldier" is awesome. For my money, however, there is a better recording of "My Brother and Me" out there, and most of the arrangements here are just okay. The real appeal of Bruce Robison is his ability to deliver songs in a live setting with earnestness and humor. If you have the option, go see him play a small acoustic show. That experience will leave these recordings in the dust. That said, this album is well worth the used price, and it trumps a lot of what Nashville is putting out. Plus, it's kind of amusing to listen to Bruce singing the love songs that were written for women to sing about men. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Great songs, but why only ten?, July 18, 2009
This review is from: His Greatest (Audio CD)
Bruce Robison is great talent as a songwriter and singer/guitarist/performer. I have met him and his spouse Kelly Willis and seen both perform most if not all of these songs live. This is a great selection of songs, some of which have been recorded by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, George Strait, Kelly Willis, the Dixie Chicks, and others. My only beef here is that in the days of 80 minute compact discs, why are only ten cuts on this album?
