Deceit, Lies and Love, October 1, 2009
This review is from: His Invisible Wife (Urban Soul) (Paperback)
Sheila M. Goss', His Invisible Wife, tells the story of Jacob Banks. Jacob is the founder and CEO of Banks Telecom. In recent months, Jacob notices his company has lost large sums of money and bids on contracts. In order to turn things around, Jacob has to accept the terms and conditions of his uncle's will - to get married. But not to anyone-he has to marry Brianna Mayfield. Brianna, one of the lead accountants at Banks Telecom, has a hidden agenda. She saw Jacobs's idea as a win-win situation - she would get her hands on a large sum of money and destroy Jacob at the same time. Jacob and Brianna did not take into consideration that their attraction to each other and it could spoil both of their plans.
Goss' story is a mixture of deceit, betrayal, revenge, greed and romance. At times, I sympathized with Brianna and cheered her shenanigans, while on the other hand, I cheered Jacob as he tried to understand his new feelings and win the lady's heart. When the plot was disclosed, I really did not think I would find the story entertaining since I had read numerous stories similar to this one. As I continued to read, I began to find the couple's situation to be enlightening and loving. This is a great story for any book club to read and enjoy.

What's Sweeter Than Revenge?!!, July 23, 2009
This review is from: His Invisible Wife (Urban Soul) (Paperback)
Ms. Goss has created a fun, heartwarming and HIGHLY entertaining tale with "His Invisible Wife"...I was CAUGHT UP from the beginning...Brianna Mayfield is DEFINITELY a handful...and Jake Banks is an AMAZING man, who will CAPTURE your heart as he attempts to woo Brianna despite her "Dr. Jekyll and Mrs. Hyde" personality...I found the full cast of characters LIVELY and memorable...and the very subtle intimate scenes are quite REFRESHING...the UNEXPECTED twists and turns will keep you turning the pages and also give you an opportunity to catch up on what's been going on with Byron and Nikki Matthews from "My Invisible Husband"...it would be nice (hint, hint) if Ms. Goss could give us a follow-up story about some of the secondary cast of characters (Bradford, Trent and Tosha)...this is a CHARMING romantic treat.

His Invisible Wife by Shelia Goss, July 26, 2009
This review is from: His Invisible Wife (Urban Soul) (Paperback)
Jacob "Jake" Banks' business is on the brink of financial disaster. Through twisted fate, his beloved company may be salvaged by the death of his wealthy uncle. The catch: commit to a year long marriage to a woman named in the will . . .
Brianna "Bri" Mayfield is heartbroken over her father's death, which she attributes to the rejection of a business loan for his community grocery store. To avenge her father's passing, she works as a hacker at Jacob's company and, against her better judgment, commits to marrying her family's enemy.
Goss dove right into the action, quickly setting up the stage for a budding romance, but conversely, a very predictable story. Character descriptions were appealing-both Jake and Brianna were stunning beauties. In addition, the settings were quite descriptive, particularly the office mood after Jake and Bri's marriage.
Here's the issue: the main characters fell in love too quickly-and under unrealistic terms. Yes, I can see how Jacob was infatuated with Brianna. However, Bri's revulsion had been brewing for a long time, a hate (and family loyalty) so strong that it's nearly impossible to vanquish, even by a man as fine as Jake--at least in my opinion. I found it highly unlikely that she'd push aside her angst just because Jake handed her a no-limit platinum card.
But there were a few good moments. Particularly, determination to save his company, and Brianna's conscious play during the latter part of the story. Goss also created a few interesting sub-plots that could branch off into their own novels.
A quick Sunday afternoon read for lovers of fairy tale endings.
