4.0 out of 5 stars Deceit, Lies and Love, October 1, 2009
This review is from: His Invisible Wife (Urban Soul) (Paperback)

Sheila M. Goss', His Invisible Wife, tells the story of Jacob Banks. Jacob is the founder and CEO of Banks Telecom. In recent months, Jacob notices his company has lost large sums of money and bids on contracts. In order to turn things around, Jacob has to accept the terms and conditions of his uncle's will - to get married. But not to anyone-he has to marry Brianna Mayfield. Brianna, one of the lead accountants at Banks Telecom, has a hidden agenda. She saw Jacobs's idea as a win-win situation - she would get her hands on a large sum of money and destroy Jacob at the same time. Jacob and Brianna did not take into consideration that their attraction to each other and it could spoil both of their plans.

Goss' story is a mixture of deceit, betrayal, revenge, greed and romance. At times, I sympathized with Brianna and cheered her shenanigans, while on the other hand, I cheered Jacob as he tried to understand his new feelings and win the lady's heart. When the plot was disclosed, I really did not think I would find the story entertaining since I had read numerous stories similar to this one. As I continued to read, I began to find the couple's situation to be enlightening and loving. This is a great story for any book club to read and enjoy.

3.0 out of 5 stars His Invisible Wife by Shelia Goss, July 26, 2009

Jacob "Jake" Banks' business is on the brink of financial disaster. Through twisted fate, his beloved company may be salvaged by the death of his wealthy uncle. The catch: commit to a year long marriage to a woman named in the will . . .

Brianna "Bri" Mayfield is heartbroken over her father's death, which she attributes to the rejection of a business loan for his community grocery store. To avenge her father's passing, she works as a hacker at Jacob's company and, against her better judgment, commits to marrying her family's enemy.

Goss dove right into the action, quickly setting up the stage for a budding romance, but conversely, a very predictable story. Character descriptions were appealing-both Jake and Brianna were stunning beauties. In addition, the settings were quite descriptive, particularly the office mood after Jake and Bri's marriage.

Here's the issue: the main characters fell in love too quickly-and under unrealistic terms. Yes, I can see how Jacob was infatuated with Brianna. However, Bri's revulsion had been brewing for a long time, a hate (and family loyalty) so strong that it's nearly impossible to vanquish, even by a man as fine as Jake--at least in my opinion. I found it highly unlikely that she'd push aside her angst just because Jake handed her a no-limit platinum card.

But there were a few good moments. Particularly, determination to save his company, and Brianna's conscious play during the latter part of the story. Goss also created a few interesting sub-plots that could branch off into their own novels.

A quick Sunday afternoon read for lovers of fairy tale endings.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Page Turner, July 22, 2009
This review is from: His Invisible Wife (Urban Soul) (Paperback)
I loved this story. It grabbed me from the first page and I wasn't able to put it down until I finished. Although there was drama it didn't drag on forever. This is a definite page turner.
Jake was the most appealing hero I have read about in a long time. He wasn't a bully and didn't argue, with Brianna when she was in Dr. Jekyll/Mrs. Hyde mode. Brianna was likable even though she is seeking revenge when the story starts. You quickly discover that her revenge tactics are out of character for her.
Jack (Jake's deceased uncle) appeared to be a heartless jerk at the beginning of the story, however you soon find out he is dealing with his own heartburn.
I really enjoyed this book and recommend it to other readers, you will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars CAPTIVATING FROM BEGINNING TO END!!!!!!, July 29, 2010
This review is from: His Invisible Wife (Urban Soul) (Paperback)
Jacob Banks married Brianna Mayfield to save his dying business while her intentions were to completely destroy it. I liked the way Ms. Goss developed the relationship between Brianna and Jake. I also liked the support of each other in the 'family lovefest' between the siblings (the three B's--Brianna, Bradford and Bridget).

This is a heart-warming, sexy, entertaining, beautiful love story with lots of drama and humor. HIS INVISIBLE WIFE is easy to read, it is extremely enjoyable and the book capitivates you from the beginning to the end.

Although Brianna and Jake married for the wrong reasons, each got what they truly wanted most in the end--love.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Sweetest Revenge..., June 15, 2010

This review is from: His Invisible Wife (Urban Soul) (Paperback)
Brianna Mayfield set out to pay revenge to the grandson,Jacob of a man that did her beloved father WRONG by denying him a loan to save his business. Could the rejection of the loan possibly contributed to Brianna's father's death? Brianna seems to think so. Brianna is on a mission to pay back the people responsible. Her number one target is the former owner's grandson, Jacob. Brianna takes a job at the JB savings and loan company owned by Jacob(inherited from his grandfather). Her revenge is to make his company pay(bankruptcy) for her father's untimely death. Jacob's grandfather's denial of Brianna's father a loan to save his company was made out of malice because of an event between Brianna's mother and Jacob's grandfather.

Brianna and Jacob have a love/hate relationship or do they? With comments like..
Jacob..."Do you miss me?"
Brianna..."Like a wart"
You will be laughing out loud at this heart-felt, warming, steamy marriage between the two.
Will Brianna follow through with her plot to get revenge? Or will it be the sweetest revenge?

You wouldn't want to put this book down! I surely didn't, until it was finished. Even then, I wanted more, more, and more..It was definitely a page-turner.

Trust, you won't be disappointed. I highly recommend this MUST read!

Brianna Mayfield is fueled and ready for revenge. Brianna knows that the Banks Corporation was the reason for her father's heart attack and will do whatever it takes to rebuild her father's company. As she plays with the accounting numbers in her position at Banks Corporation, Jacob Banks takes interest in Brianna. Jacob's interest comes from his father's will - he has to marry Brianna or he won't get his inheritance. Will the two be able to overlook their personal agendas and love each other?

Goss has penned another love triangle with twist that will rival any lifetime movie. Brianna and Jacob fight back and forth with a seemingly love/hate relationship. The supporting characters add drama to the tangled web of deceit that develops between all those involved. At times the story is predictable and lags in action in sections but the overall story is worth an afternoon and a few cups of hot tea. Thanks RAWSISTAZ for the recommendation and author chat...the readers do listen/read...

Brianna Mayfield is a woman on a mission. She wants to destroy the Banks family and their company, JB Savings and Loan. She has long held them responsible for her father's demise. He was denied several business loan attempts from JB Savings and Loan that would have allowed him to compete with the bigger grocery store chains and as result it appeared he lost his will to live with the lost of the business. Brianna became the family's champion in seeing that her father's tormentor would receive just retribution for what he did. The only thing, Jack Banks is now dead. Now she focuses her plan for revenge on his nephew, Jacob "Jake" Banks, who owns a company financed by JB Savings and Loan and where Brianna now works, both openly and covertly.

Jake Banks is the owner of Banks Telecom and is one of Texas' wealthiest bachelors. However, unbeknownst to many, his company is on the brink of financial disaster. Unexplainable project failures have been dogging the company. Without some cash soon, it is possible that many employees will lose their jobs. His only option is to do what his uncle requested in his will--marry Brianna Mayfield. So he pays her boyfriend off, offers her a million dollars for a year and now the fun begins. What happens to Brianna's revenge plot? Will she get caught red-handed? Or, will Jake be able to soften her heart? Then again, she could drive him crazy in the process.

HIS INVISIBLE WIFE by Shelia Goss is an entertaining and touching read about love, lies, revenge and family. I consumed this book in one sitting and did not want to let go of the warm and fuzzy feeling I got after I finished. By the book's end I was reminded of a scripture that says "...because love covers over a multitude of sins." Goss demonstrated the power of love over all the bad things we can do. Her writing was succinct and very uplifting. I enjoyed meeting all the characters, for many of them seemed to have a story lurking nearby. This is a good one to add to your collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Thought Provoking, Intriguing, Captivating, December 20, 2009
This review is from: His Invisible Wife (Urban Soul) (Paperback)
Shelia Goss is at it again a man and a woman coming together under not so normal rules.

Jacob Banks was about to lose it all until his uncle leaves him with the opportunity to save his business. However, there are stipulations that he has to make happen before he's allowed the cash he needs to save his business. This stipulation is named Brianna "Bri" Mayfield, a woman with her eyes set on revenge. Jake has to marry Bri to cash in on the inheritance. Brianna is determined to destroy Jake and his company. Jake's proposal will provide her with a large sum of money and the perfect opportunity to accomplish her goal. What neither Jake nor Brianna count on is their attraction to each other.

His Invisible Wife was a fun and quick read with one major downfall. I could not find a clear description of Brianna anywhere in the book. I could give you a description of Jake from head to toe but we never get a description other than Jake stating she was a little healthier than most women he dated.

Shelia has produced another thought provoking intriguing book that left me captivated.
