A Must Have Book,

This review is from: In His Light: A Path Into Catholic Belief (Paperback)
This book (second edition) is written to correspond with the process of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. As a 19 year veteran of working with RCIA, I consider it an important addition to the RCIA library. It is well organized and presents authentic Catholic theology. It is easy to read and understand being based on Holy Scripture and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. It will be valuable in any adult faith formation program.

Great overview of the faith - based on Catechism of Catholic Church,
By Adult Faith Formation / RCIA Coordinator (Columbus, OH) - See all my reviews
This review is from: In His Light: A Path Into Catholic Belief (Paperback)
This is a great book that uses the Catechism of the Catholic Church as a main source. It is presented in an easy-to-read question and answer format. It is not meant to be a thorough presentation of every teaching of the church - it was written specifically as an overview. It is for thinking adults. There is nothing heretical, and the book has a Nihil Obstat and an Imprimatur.

Great for RCIA,
This review is from: In His Light: A Path Into Catholic Belief (Paperback)
An excellent resource for RCIA classes. Clearly written, good question/answer format, short chapters that are appropriate for a week of study, solid facts about the Faith presented.

Found this book to be an easy-to-read basic Roman Catholic catechism.

Typical Modern Ambiguty,
By j.mart (Hampton, VA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: In His Light: A Path Into Catholic Belief (Paperback)
This is a verbose introduction that manages to even waffle on whether the Virgin Birth was an actual happening or some super-spiritual nonsense a la Raymond E Brown at his worst moments. Not overtly heretical, but doing the dance with uncertainty that paralyzes the faith of many. You'll be better off with Peter Kreeft's 'Catholic Christianity'.

Modernist Veiw Point,
By Sam "book guy" (Indiana) - See all my reviews
This review is from: In His Light: A Path Into Catholic Belief (Paperback)
While some may find this book good as a RCIA guide I thought it highly suspect and would not recommend it.
By questioning the basics such as whether the vigin birth was a real happening or just a super spiritual impression, the Bibles authenticity etc., this book rides a fine line of heresy as defined in 2089 of The Catechism of the Catholic Church. This clever dancing around these basics of all Christian and Catholic faiths is highly disturbing as my wife found while making the inquiry process of RCIA thus causing her to abandon RCIA. As her past evangelical impression of the Catholic faith as being heretical was unfortunately confirmed. All leaders and any teacher of any RCIA group should carefully read this book first before using it as a guide. Likewise, any RCIA leader or teacher should question the priest before using this book. |
