This review is from: His 30 Original Hits (Audio CD)
This is a good n' cheap (Italian import) collection. Overall, i really like the sound, which captures the old original, fat~analogue sound, which i prefer over the slick remastering jobs.(I'm fairly sure the tracks here, have been mastered from vinyl) >Attention: Let it be known: There is a *MANUFACTURING*DEFECT* on the song "Crazy Legs"* (there's a skip and a whole vocal line is botched - No, it wasn't just my particular cd)
This collection presents some of GV's best songs/recordings....I gave my copy to a friend, as i have all the songs on the boxed set. As an introduction this is good, but i would recommend "The Screaming End" even if it costs a few dollars more. The Collectables two-fer cd of the first two GV records is pitiful, IMO. The sound is awful and the packaging is cheesy "50's Retro"...Gene deserves much better than that. Also, look for the ace new GV biography, "Race With The Devil" (VanHecke) available via Amazon.com books. For serious fans, the re-issued EMI box set of the complete Capitol/Columbia sessions 1956-64 is essential.
